Weird Allopreening

All of the finches I've had in the past would only preen other birds' heads and necks. However, my three society finch brothers will also preen other birds' sides and rumps. This doesn't seem to be a problem, but it is rather odd, especially considering that their parents don't do that.

Finches that are friends can preen anywhere on each other's bodies, as long as the other finch allows it.

One of my owls is trying to be friend to the Emblema picta. It looks quite odd. The Emlema doesn't like it so much, but they can sleep now 10cm away. Owl is trying to get closer, though! Lovely to watch.

Omg your societies sound precious. I just got a pair and mine preen each other all day in addition to feeding each other seeds.

Yes I think Society finches are amazing too because they are calmer and get along so well and so far aren't little buttheads like my zebras. My little female society, Pixie, is crested and so petite. She keeps looking over at my female zebra in another cage as if she wishes she would come over for a visit. I think they are the most overlooked in the finch world because their coloration isn't as flashy.

HillbillyFinch yes but to be fair I think there is some really nice ones like the fawns and the whites also some pieds are very nice I have one with two little flicks like eyebrows then all white chest and belly then just one white feather at the ends of her wings then the rest is brown she is so nice looking

I prefer the greys and selfs the most however a lot find them boring lol

CathyCraftz and Fraza

Thanks; that makes sense. It's just odd how those three are the only ones okay with it.
