My Male finch has attacked the other . . .

I have 2 Male Gouldian finches. They had been living together in a nice flight cage. Recently, I noticed that the older Male Gouldian had been attacking and pecking at the face of the younger Male Gouldian.
As a result, I had to separate the two. Do you think it will ever be safe to put them back together ?

Dear JerseyGuy,
i am new to the forum but have had zebra finches for years, and i think you were lucky so far that the two males didn't attack each other sooner. according to my experience, two males can never tolerate to be in one cage. they may look nice and harmless, but there is always the risk that you may come one day and see they have harmed each other badly when you were not looking.
i advise that you keep them separate for their own good.

Gouldians are generally sweet birds, a little pushier than societies, but nowhere near a lot of zebras. It's pretty surprising that they would fight. A pair of males of most common finch species (except canaries) will usually get along just as well as a male-female or a female-female pair.
