Zebra finch hen making weird sounds

Post by CathyCraftz » Fri Mar 29, 2019 1:23 am

My zebra finch hen sometimes starts moving her beak and makes clicking sounds when I come near the cage. Is she sick or is she trying to tell me to stay away? Also, is she fine if she is puffed up most of the time but is still active and eating normally?
Have a nice day!
Sincerely, Cathy

hi.
I own finches and if i notice this sign then it means trouble. taking steps to check the finch is the safest approach. if you dont know what is wrong with her then take her to vet. could be air sac mites as one of mine is having now. this is a very bad season for birds.
i hope there is nothing wrong but do take note of her usual movements. is she puffed up and sits or sleeps a lot?

She's puffed up but only because it's cold, and when she makes the clicking sounds she's kind of grinding her beak.
Have a nice day!

Beak-grinding can be a sign of aggression or relaxation, depending on the context.

What's the temperature? A puffed-up bird at near-freezing is normal, but a puffed-up bird closer to room temperature is not.

Puffed up cold mean that it’s due to temperature

However if she is puffed up and panting with her beak clicking sometimes they can be egg bound

Can you not stick a lamp near the cage to warm it up abit ? And the beak clicking could be terroetorial to I know pairs do it in nests to keep other birds away
