I am headed to the Atlanta Bird Fair at the end of Feb. I want to pick up a cage or 2 and a new pair of finches. I was hoping to get a good idea of what prices I should end up paying for the following items (no, i am not going to get them all, but I am feeling out a varity of finches).

I am also open to suggestions for what pair to get. So far, i have a zeb pair.

What should I pay for...

30x18x18 cage

(larger than 30)x18x18 cage (big enough lets say for 2 pairs)

young breeding pair of fires

young breeding pair of owls

young breeding pair of BCCB

young breeding pair of gold breasts

I'm a novice, so I'm just throwing this out to ya..Not sure what cage you are looking for, but this one seems to be a good one:

If I may suggest, don't buy something you won't use later.. I have done that already, and others in this forum have too.

Can't give you any advice on the birds. Use your best judgement and don't make an impulse buy.. There are always more in the future.

HI!
The cage Bill suggested is a great one if you are wanting to spend that much. The cage you are asking about you should be able to get for about twenty bucks.

I have seen these birds you are asking about every time I go. The prices vary each time but around.....

goldbreast pair 80.00
owls 160.00 (sexed) most do not have them sexed.
bccb 120.00 pr.
firefinches 120.00 pr.

Like I said.... it depends upon the month you go in. If you are going to be there on Sunday, sometimes you can get them cheaper at the end of the day. But..... then you risk them all being sold. I always go on Saturday mornings because there are more choices.

I would suggest you look for Floyd Barnett. He is there at every show. His birds are always healthy and he has good prices. He is very trustworthy. Some are not.....

The cage that Bill has suggested is great... but this one you are asking about I have seen at the bird marts for around 25.00.

On prices they vary but approximately you should be able to buy for the following:

owl pr. 160.00
bccb pr. 90.00
goldbreast pr. 80.00
fire finch pr. 120.00

I would suggest you go see what Floyd Barnett has first. He is always there and has a wide variety of birds and I have never had any problems with his. He is a great and honest person.

I'll be there too looking for either an owl pair or a CB pair. I haven't decided yet but I don't think I can afford both just yet.

I'm also going to be looking for some cage supplies like seed hoppers and natural perches.

I just dont want an 8 year old bird on its last leg. I want an unrelated pair in its first year or there abouts with the potential to breed. Thats all.

Don't be surprised if the cage price is a bit more than that. Costs on them have been increasing the past several months due to freight costs.

I haven't been since November show, but there is a man there who makes them so there should be no freight cost.

Hopefully you'll have some luck then. Keep us posted on what pricing is like. It will be interesting to hear.

You can tell their approximate age by their leg bands. Not sure if you already know about that, but here is a link shows colors of bands by year. Hope you find it useful.

I have found great values from "ssuplies" a seller on ebay. Two large cages which can also be put together for a nice flight cage run $105 with the shipping. I have four of them and they can't be beat for the price!

I got my 4 cages from ssupplies and for $210. I put together this 3x5x3 (91x152x91 cm) flight with a pair of wire cutters and a bunch of zip ties. I still need to make a few adjustments with lighting and perches but I'm waiting for the upcoming bird show to get some less expensive perches and hopefully some seed hoppers.

I picked up a couple of these dishes at Walmart. They appealed to my sense of humor.

Oh. so nice!!! I checked them out. The shipping is what kills you when buying from them. The cages themselves are super cheap. I am hoping i can pick up cages from the bird mart for this cheap. And since I am already driving.. FREE SHIPPING
