Society Finch Question

Is there a way to tell the difference between male and female society finches?? Thanks!

alas no is the answer...they cannot be sexed visually...but the cock birds are the only ones that sing the females do not!....and they do lay egs of course

The good news is that you usually only have to watch a cock for, hmmm, 30 seconds before the little bugger starts singing!

It may take a little longer than that to catch a hen laying eggs.

No, societies actually have a pretty good song - you can't miss it. Each of my males has his own song, so I can tell exactly who's singing. They're so funny - their bottom half gets full and heavy-looking, they stretch up their heads and belt it out!
