I have ALOT of gouldians that are coloring up.....
Some of them I have been able to determine the sex of because I can hear the males singing. I think I read somewhere (can't find it now) that you could tell by the color of the beak. Here are two of them with one a red tip beak and the other black. Can you tell by this if they are male or female?
Also, this one is from the same clutch and has already colored up. Isn't he beautifu? His face looks red to me, but mom and dad both had orange head......

They really are colouring beautifully! The top one I believe is a male due to his bright yellow belly. I don't think their gender can be determined from their beak colouring. the last one I believe is an orange head looking at his head colour and his beak colour too. Maybe just my computer monitor?

Thanks Liz! So do you think that both of the two in the first picture are males?
If so, I sure do have alot of cocks!

It seems I will only have a few hens out there.......

I can't tell the middle one in the first pic at all yet. If it's belly feathers are as bright a yellow as the OH male in the second pic - then yes it's a male too. I'm not 100% on the one on the right in the top pic - but I'm only about 90% sure of him.

All birds look like cocks to me. Not sure on whether beak colour in juveniles is any indication of sex. But the beak colour is a good indicator for the head colour.
The last pic looks like a red head but if it definately came from two yellow heads then it has to be yellow since yellow is recessive. My guess is your hen has had an affair with either a black or a red headed cock bird.

I heard that we can determind if a juvie Gouldian is male or female by hearing it, only the male sings? What about the mating dance? I have some Gouldians, all do the mating dance but only one trying to sing.
2 vietnamese greenfinches, 2 gouldians, 2 javas, 5 strawberries. and still try to have more

I have a question, can we know if the juneile Gouldian is male or female by seeing it doing the mating dance? I have 3 Gouldian now, all of them do the mating dance, but only one try to sing.

I personally have never seen a hen do the dance.
It takes a while for some of them to sing. I have some that are just now singing and some that have been singing from the same clutch.

I have these three that fledged in January that look some what like those, one is showing signs of being a YB WB, and then the others might be a normal and then the last one is looking like a BB PB. These are my first Gould babies. Have two more since that one shows sign of being Silver. Just thought I'd share some pictures. The two are the last ones to hatch.

1 pair BCCB, 1 pair Star, ? pair Owls, 6 Gouldians, 1 Isable Zebra male, 1 male Pintail Whydah. 4 Dogs, 2 Cats, 3 Cows, Chickens, 1 rabbit and fish. I think that is it. Heidi

Nice pictures!
This is exactly what I have going on right now.Four young ones that were born this past January.I have one bird like in your second picture that is very close to be fully colored up.Well the other three are like the bird on the first picture to the far right. It seems like they are getting close to coloring up.I might be wrong as this is my first ever clutch of Gouldians.
