What do I do when my baby finches go out of the nest?

I think the male keep plucking their feathers too.

Do you mean they have fledged and are leaving the nest during the day, or do you mean they are falling or are pushed out of the nest and they are too young to leave the nest yet?

Male Zebras are notorious for plucking the feathers from their youngsters in order to start a new nest. He will continue to do this. You can supply lots of new nesting material to keep him busy. If he continues plucking, you may have to remove him to another cage till the babies are weaned and can be moved to their own cage.

Keep in mind that if you let him build another nest, you will soon have more eggs and then more babies = more cages!

In addition to Sally's comments - if the babies have been out of the nest for a day or two - you can remove the nest and the male will stop his nesting behavours.

i believe you meant to say they have fledged. if that's so, first of Congratulation. And secondly, i do agree with sally & Liz. if the dad kelp on plucking the babies. It is just because he wanting to start another clutch right away. So you just have to remove him into a separate cage. The mom will do fine without him and wean the babies on her own. I have to do this too for my Zebras in the past. So don't worry, if you do this. You'll be fine. :)

Fledging is when the babies come out of the nest and begin to discover the world around them. With zebras this usually happens when they are around 18 days old, they will be weaned about 2 weeks later.

If you like you could always read the documentation on the finch information center, you can find about anything there.

Here you can find a detailed timetable. :D

hehe my dear, fledge is another way to say that you're babies just came out the nest. :)

for example: "I have a couple fledglings", means that I have a couple babies that just left the nest.
