Talk about a horrible day. I had a baby die. (I have no reason why) Then after we take our dead baby out. That night a snake gets into the cage and eats the daddy bird.!!! I take the snake out and kill it.
I can't believe the snake ate the bird and then it couldn't fit to get out of the cage.
What a horrible day.

I am so sorry this happened.

I am assuming this cage was outside.

I had the same thing happen to me, except the snake ate three juvenile Stars. I found it curled up sleeping on top of a plastic plant in the cage. They can squeeze thru the bars, especially on the economy-type cages, but then are too fat to leave. I also had one eat a Goldbreasted, then it apparently couldn't get out of the cage, so it regurgitated the finch in order to escape.

How awful for you.

I hope you can fix it so snakes cannot get in in the future.

Sorry for your loss. A snake in the grass for sure. Glad you were able to kill the snake, he would of kept coming back for more.

How awful for you. One never knows when a predador is lurking about.
I have never had to worry about snakes with an indoor cage but last summer I had a chipmunk get into the cage one night....I heard the commotion and got up and saw the chipmunk under the cage floor.
He wasn't after the bird but he was into the bird seed....rotten little Devil.

We figured he snuck into the house when we come in from outside.

Where is Eunice, Louisiana? I lived in Lake Charles, for three and a half years. 73 to 76
I had a snake get into my house when I moved in and a month later he found the finches in the back bed room. he ate three that first night. but couldn't get out of the cage. I took him to the woods out back. He never came back.
