has anyone ever used this feeder?

I am considering getting 2 for my big flight cage and 1 for each of the smaller cages, no matter if it is a cup or deep crock the food is all over the bottom or they perch and poop in it. I wanted to use the hanging feeders but they will take up flying space in the 30 x 18 x 18 cages, it might be fine in the large flight.

Appreciate any feed back.

I have a few of these - they are perfect!

thank you for the advice, if I use the dish I am presently using but put very little in it...do you think they will gradually use the feeder if I place it near the bowl?

I think that would work just watch that all learn to use

That's basically how I trained my finches to use seed hoppers - place the first/old seed feeder right beside the newly installed seed hopper. It can take a few days to a week but soon you should notice shells in the bottom tray of the new hopper.

Thanks for all your advice, I will order 2 for the flight and 1 for each cage. My Owls are naturally nosy so I think they should be fine. It is my little Gold Breasted that concern me, they are so timid about different foods, changes. They remind me of my Gray, you have to introduce everything slowly. I will do as you suggested. I use them for all my flights and cages and they're fantastic. After blowing seed hulls out of dishes every day I knew there had to be a better way.

Don't you just love the seed hull effect in your hair...goodness don't inhale!

Those are the only feeders I use presently, the only birds that still make a mess are my gouldian pair, they eat sideways and dump the mess on the floor regardless.

When I get a new product like cups and perches I never like to use it right from the package, what have you found to be the best way to wash the seed hoppers. I imagine that you can rinse them in a mild bleach solution, rinse well and air dry completely before using.

I love these seed hoppers, and most birds learn to use them pretty quickly. One drawback is that you may still have that persistent hen that will insist on laying an egg in the seed hopper. The other is that they are difficult to get every little drop of water off them when I wash them and dry them. Air drying works best--I need to get some extras so that I can put up a clean hopper while letting the old one dry out. And I just wash mine in soapy water.

I know what you mean about the very last drop of water...shall I resort to the good old hair dryer trick?

I have seed hoppers in every cage and two in the bigger cages (double flights). the only thing is the cup in the bottom will fill before the hopper is empty. Ihave a small box that i hold under the hopper so that I don't spill any hulls on the floor when I pull it out. I wish I could find a bigger cup that would fit the hopper. when I go out of town for the weekend the cups will be full when I get back. One double flight has 12 bids in it and two hoppers will feed them for 4 days. but the cups will over flow.

don't use a hair dryer on hot, just on air only, as it will warp the hopper if it get to warm!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
