Tracing closed band information

Post by Sally » Wed Aug 26, 2009 10:41 pm

One of the male Strawberries I recently got has a closed metal band on his right leg. It is silver in color, and it is stamped with AAA 05 545. Anyone have any idea what organization this might be? I would love to try to get some information on him. I'm sure the 05 is the year of hatching, so that would make him 4--not too old for breeding yet, I hope.

Not sure but the AAA may not be an organization but someones initials. You can have bands printed with whatever you want on them.

Very true, Candace. I do know that some of the Strawberries that are available are coming from Puerto Rico, so I contacted an organization there just in case it might ring a bell with them. Of all my Strawberries, this is the first one wearing a closed band, other than the ones I bred and banded myself.

Not sure but I did find this...

Looks like the AAA is a pattern on their steel leg bands, maybe that's a start?

Thanks for the link, Tiffany--I sent them an email. I contacted several organizations or leg band companies. I heard back from AFA already that they don't have anyone using that code. It would be interesting to learn his history. I've been told that Strawberries are wild in Puerto Rico, so if he came from there, he would have been a domestic bred, perhaps from a wild.
