FINCH BEHAVIOR

Post by Leda » Fri Oct 09, 2009 9:06 am

My beautiful little male Star Finches are very happy. They hop around sing and eat. Then they go to their sleeping perch, and take a nap. They do these 2 things all day long. Was just wondering if this is normal behavior for Star Finches to nap like that.
2 Stars, 2 Javas, 1 male Canary, 1 Cockatiel, 2 cats, 2 dogs, and a wonderful husband!!!!

None of my finches usually nap much during the day except for my young juvies. Are they napping alot?

I have about 20 finches and they are all active all day except right after lunch time. They all take a 15-20 minute siesta EVERY day.

Flying, singing and eating all day is normal. Excessive sleeping is indicative of an underlying health concern.
Goulds, Owls, Gold Breasts, Stars, Zebras, Societies
An obscene number of chicks and eggs
And an incredibly rare St. Goldena Breast finch
Anyone want some finches???

We were wondering how young they were. Their tail feathers have been coming in. Beautiful redish color. I bought them at a pet store and they do not have bands. So I think that problem is solved, they are very young!!!! They havent been taking naps as often as when I first got them a week ago. We went out to the park and got them some natural tree branches, boy do they love that!!!! Much nore active on the tree branches than on the perches. They are both males so they sing like a storm!!!!!
