How long does it usually take for adult feathers to start coming in? My little juvie is just now eating on his or her own. I am not in a hurry for it to be an adult, am am just very curious what it's colors it will start showing. How long do you think I may be waiting to see some "spots". lol

I would say on average at 3 months they will start to molt depending on the temperatures and breeding line. The molt can last for 3 to 4 months depending on the quality of their diet.
Good luck

Sometimes it can take up to a year.. like Debbie said, there are many different things that influence it and unfortunately I've never been able to pin point any one thing that causes some birds to molt faster than others.

Even within a single clutch I've had some finish a molt by 4 months of age, and others take 7 months to finish.. housed in the same flights, receiving the same diet, same amount of light, same temps.

It's a crap shoot.. I never make any assumptions in terms of how quickly they will finish molting.

My newest yellow gould has about a dozen orange pins on her face. A large tuft of white in her chest and her back is showing a few spots of vibrant yellow coming in. She isnt even 2 months old. My duo of greens didnt start for 3 months. Finished by the end of 6. They are beautiful birds now.

They look just like they were weaned last week. I was at leasst thinking something would be showing by now... Ordered some feather fast... Should I start that now? or wait til they start to get the colors?
