Cricket and the cute things he does!!!

 I am in total shock of this little bird. Maybe it's more normal than I think it is...with my lack of personal experience with finches besides at work...but...he's like...REALLY attached to me.

He's getting to the point where he can delicately perch on my finger. He was sitting there after a feeding just talking to me and I was like "What do you want Cricket..that little crop is so full!?" and he took a flying leap onto my chest. Then proceeded to cuddle up in my shirt.

Then later on for his next feeding I had him sitting on the table while I mixed his formula. He looked alittle unsure (new surroundings) and he was just wailing. I bent down to look at him about eye level and he came waddling as fast as those little feet could go and hopped right into my hand!

I guess I really am 'mom' now. :D

hi meg
i have been through all of that when i raised my own baby zebra...you are as you say his mom now i used to roll up the bottom of my t-shirt and he would lay on his back which is not a natural position for a bird and he would fall asleep until feeding time...if he was on the floor he would hop on to my foot while i was walking around and get a free ride..the pleasure you get out of hand rearing far outweigh all the times i had to get up every 2 hours at first to feed him!

:D Cricket is love! I take him with me to work and everyone was so shocked to see this FINCH hop up out of his carrier and up onto me. lol they were like "how did you train him to do that?!"

Once he's weaned I won't be taking him to work anymore (of course).

I still can't find my camera....I think we might have left it on the sail boat....It will probably be a while before we get back out there. I want to take pictures of my zebras too....they're starting to get color and the orange is coming in on thier beaks! :D

That's amazing!

I knew Java Rice sparrows can be 'tamed' if you work with them when they're young enough...never read anything similar about other finches...

...stands to reason of course...

...lol...you HAVE to find your camera! :D
