Finch scabs

Post by hollyrebel600 » Sat Apr 17, 2010 4:12 am

Hi there,

I am new to this forum and would like an answer to something that has been happening with my finches.

I have two finches in a cage and have recently noticed some scabs on the female's wing. I have one male finch and one female finch. The male finch pecks and pushes the sides of her wings where the scabs are. Every morning when they wake up he also jumps on her back. Could this be a mating issue? I am really concerned about the pink scaly scabs and that she may be stressed out. Any advice on this issue would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, hollyrebel600. Welcome to the forum! If you are able to get pictures of her wing and the scabs, it might be easier for forum members to help determine what's going on. There are a lot of very experienced and helpful members here on the Finch Forum. :D

hi the jumping on the back thing is definately a mating thing...also the male bird maybe trying to make a nest with the females feathers by plucking them out...if they are old enough i would give them a nest and some material to build with and hopefully the scabs may get better

ken
you can always tell a yorkshireman, but you cant tell him much
