When should you worry about finches fighting?

Post by Ameza » Sat May 15, 2010 8:31 am

Hi guys, I am mostly asking for my little sister since she has such a small heart and is always worrying about our finches.

We have two zebra juveniles, brothers, and almost daily they chase each other around the cage and give this squeek that we always heard few months ago when their mother was attacking them.

But there has been no plucking and no injuries so I'm not really worried about them, but what do you think, anything do be done about it or is it just normal?

If no one is being injured just give them some time, they are probably workng out the pecking order.

Yeah I though it would be something like that. I don't think I'll get worried unless they get more agressive and start really hurting each other.

I think I know the squak/squeek sound that you are talking about. That is when one is being chased and it seems like they are calling for help or crying.

Watch for plucking. Some times after that kind of chasing, the one that is being chased will also get plucked. I lost a hen when she was plucked so badly, and probably also trauamtized, that she did not survive the night in my hospital cage.
