New Gouldians

Post by allicat1229 » Mon May 24, 2010 9:06 pm

I rescued two more gouldians today. The first pair I have are nice and calm and are currently sitting on 5 eggs. I put the new kids in an outside aviary. They are young, one still in juvie colors. Anyways, they seem very, very active, unlike my other pair. They did not sit still for hours, until the sun went down. Is this normal for new birds, or maybe cause they are younger? Just curious...:)

Could be that they are nervous/scared about their new home. In fact they could be in a mild panic.

Just a guess. Maybe the outside aviary is too open for them to outside activity. Maybe a month or so in a breeder cage w covered sides, so they are not spooked by activity outside the cage.

I read where one breeder brings her new birds into a quiet room, to qurantine and settle down in their new home after transport.

Ok...I will do that. The cage is not too big and its in a secluded patio surrounded by plants. They are singing, singing, singing...

I shall move them today! Thanks for the advice.

If they look like they calmed down a bit, leave them there. They may be on the way to adjusting to the cage.
