Avatar pic???
It specifies on here that your Avatar pic has to be smaller than
6 kib? How is it possible to make it that small??? I've tried over and
over but it simply doesn't work?? How is everyone getting a pic
under their names and making it fit????????
The one below is the one I'd like to put up under my name.
*frustrated*

Re: Avatar pic???
I have taken your photo, cropped it and reduced it's size. I hope you don't mind the close up of the pair of Shaftails but if I left the picture as whole - then the birds would be very very tiny in the centre.
You should save this pic to your computer and then upload it as your avatar. Such a cute pair!

Re: Avatar pic???
Liz, how do you do that? I need to update my avatar, in fact I'd like to be able to change it from time to time like others do, but whenever I try a new picture, I get the message that my file is too large, even when I crop. These two little handfed Star babies no longer even live with me, I sold them along with all my Stars to a friend, and now all my babies are having babies themselves--that's how old that avatar is!

Re: Avatar pic???
Sally I use photoshop to do mine, and using certain settings when saving, I'm able to get a high quality image with a very tiny file size. I'm sure Liz would be happy to do it, but if not you can send your pics right over to me and I'd love to resize them for you. That goes for anyone on the finchforum!! My email is domenic1@ymail.com if you would like to send the pictures to me, or you can post them on this thread.

Re: Avatar pic???
Sometimes I am able to do the resizing in the program for photos and the avatar is accepted when I upload it off of that program...sometimes it rejects it. If it rejects it I email it to photobucket and edit/resize it like Liz did. When done save it and click on the box next to the words direct link under the picture...that copies the link then paste it in the box in the avater/profile section entitled Upload from a URL: hit submit and it goes through...I resize it to just under 100 usually to 99 or 98 to be on the safe side.

Re: Avatar pic???
I use Photoshop for all my photo editing. If anyone wants me to create an avatar for them - I don't mind at all. Just post your pic and I'll crop it down and resize it. No problem - it's fast for me.
I don't know how to get high-tech like Pooh's signature photos - I can't do a whole bunch in one - that's cool!!

Paint makes the file size too large, usually 15 kb for me. Finchforum only allows 6.

Re: Avatar pic???
You can use Link off-site option and your avatar could be as big as you like. Just point it to the picture you like on any Photo sharing website. Only check that image is not more than 100 pixels in width and height. Usually you can control your image thumbnail size.

Re: Avatar pic???
True.... a very large file may not reduce enough on 'Paint' to get below 6KBDomenic wrote:poohbear wrote:All very technical...what's wrong with 'paint' and resize...simple.

I reduced a pic from 481KB from my camera on paint to a 100x100 pixels.... the smallest I achieved was 19.9KB
My avatar however was 110KB and reduced on Paint to 2.34KB

Re: Avatar pic???
I'm a graphic designer and photographer, and I found it hard to resize my pic for my avatar. Finally, what I did was (in Photoshop):
Crop image 1" sq. at 72 dpi
You can check this by clicking on the 'Image Size' tab under the 'Image' menu.
Then, "Save for web & devices"
Under image quality, chose 'medium'.
But still, I had a hard time getting the small file size, but still have a clear image. If anyone else has a better solution, I would be interest!!!
