Images in your Posts

You can't "present/bring" an image for display from your computer, directly to this Site.
There are three ways to do this:

Option 1:
You can download one/more Picture to this Server into the Gallery here, just click on the link above on the heading of this screen. Then copy the URL of the picture from the Gallery and paste it into your Post, like I’m about to do here.
After the picture comes up, just drop your cursor down to your tray, and minimize the Drawing, where you can continue reading this Post.

Click on this link:
http://www.finchforum.com/gallery/displ ... fullsize=1

You have just brought up a picture of a Diagram, which I downloaded to this server. The picture will come up in it’s own screen, where if you were reading the instructions on how to assemble the Door, and with that screen in the “Restore Down” mode, you could slip the screen to the side, and refer to it when necessary. I use this one, to make the picture available, but not show up in the Post, keeping the Post from being very long.
(which is a bad habit of mine  )

Option 2:
You can, as above, put your picture in the Gallery, place your cursor at the place you want your picture in your post, click there, to get the cursor to start “blinking” in that location, then move it up and click on the IMG button at the top of your Post. Then paste or type the URL of the picture from the Gallery or other Server*, next to the IMG logo that you just created in your post, then return to the top of your Post, and click on /IMG, which will close the order. You then may do that again, if you want more than one picture, or, continue to write your Post text below the Picture.

Option 3:
You can establish an account with another server, like *Photobucket.com.
This is a free server, that you can put pictures on, and from a Post on any forum that supports Hyperlinks, call that picture into the Post you are writing. This way you don’t have to have the Picture on each Server, just one. The FINCHforum Site supports Hyperlinks.
As you create your account there, if you choose to do that, you will see the limitations on size and quantity of photos, and other options you may choose.

Note:
I’ll mention this. Server space cost money to maintain, if I have a picture that’s directly related to this Site, I’ll download it to this Server. However, if it’s not directly related, I have an account with Photobucket, and have those Pictures on their Server. Just in the best interest of keeping these guys from any more cost than necessary. Our host, the Administrator of this Site is generous, encouraging you to place your photos here. I appreciate that, but, I will not abuse this privilege, and I hope you agree and use good judgment in all of our behalf.

Tip:
Additionally, I keep a .doc on my Computer, and a list of actual URL’s of the Pictures and or Post that I refer to frequently. This way all I have to do is bring up my MSWord and the .doc, and have a functional copy of the URL right there to copy then paste into my Post, instead of searching through the Site for it.
Of course this is possible with HTML/text formats, other than Microsoft.

* = http://photobucket.com (one of several of this type Server you could use)

Hey, Houston - thanks for these tips! I am not at all computer savvy, barely know how to email photos to my sister, so let's see if I've got this right. If I post pictures in a topic thread or in the gallery on the finchinfo forum, that costs Crystal money, but if I post pictures in something like photobucket, I could post a topic on the finchinfo forum that I have a photo album on photobucket, and people could go there to see my photos.

FeatherHarp.
    OHH, my sides are hurting !

Sally,
Sorry for replying out of order, but FeatherHarp cracks me up !

Ohhhh, anyway, whew,
I think I understand your question.

Yes, you can "lighten up" on the load placed on this Website, by putting your Picks on another Server like Photobucket. (that's Option 3), and...
At Photobucket, you can opt to let anyone see what you've placed there with them, or make your "bucket" private.
I personally chose the private mode, if someone wants to see my picks, they can come here, and pump up the Site's "rank" by increasing visits here. Umm, I've really become a "company" man, when it comes to this Website, sorry, but I really like it here !

Just to clarify:
You post your picture at Photobucket.
You place the URL (address only) of the Pic here (hardly any room needed for the text to type/copy that address into your post.
With the IMG function, this Server knows to go look on Photobucket, bring that Photo here and display it, ONLY when someone is reading your Post. All other times, it leavs the Pick at Photobucket, this Server brings it in temporarily, then releases it when whoever moves away from your post.

The Picture is still at Photobucket, this Server just borrowed a copy temporarily. IF you had your "bucket" marked "public", someone could visit Photobucket, and still see your Picture(s) there, while it's being displayed here.

All,
Additionally, if you have a URL of some site like Photobucket, please Post it here, Photobucket happens to be the only one I'm familiar with, I know there are other FREE Sites, where you can do this at, surely !?

Have a good Day ! :)
