the little thumbs up on the lower right hand side is liking the post, what that person said

the little happy face and sad face to the lower left are friend and foe buttons.

the explaination poit "!" in red is for reporting a post...so if the post is say spam will this go right to the moderators without a separate pm?

CIndy, I just liked your post and it said I liked the author for the post. So would that be those number of likes under your avatar? I do not wnt to sound rude but I liked the forum without all the new features. I like the new forum additions, i dont know, I guess I just do not like the change. I miss my proven stars, too!!!

Cindy, I think the "!" does notify the mods to look

Although you can chose to interpret the "likes" feature however you want, it tracks both which post was liked (so the post gets a rating relative to the 'most liked' post with the most 'like votes') and which users have been liked or done the liking.

So every time you like a post, the post gets a "vote," the "Has liked" count under your avatar increases by 1, and the "Been liked" count under the post-author's avatar also increases by 1.

This allows the forum to keep track of the "most liked" posts (the link on the left called "Most Liked" under "The Team"), as well as the authors that received likes and the members who give out likes (the "Everyone's Likes" link).

If you would all prefer, I can probably change the text associated with the feature so when you like a post it doesn't say you're liking the author for the post (and simply says "This post has been liked by: _______"), but this won't change the fact that the author of the post will be "awarded" the like, if that makes sense?

I've been checking out the "been liked" posts on some and honestly don't see what the purpose is. They don't seem to be for anything particularly important or thoughtful. I do realize a few people have asked for the "like" button like facebook has though and I appreciate the time it must have taken to implement all these changes. It's definitely kid friendly now with all these bells and whistles.
Thanks for all your hard work

Hi Crystal,
in my opinion it looks better if the test said "like" as for post not "like" as for the authors. I believe I have seen comment form several members in this regards.

No actually. :|
Nor do I really want to advertize my age

Didn't want to be put on the map either. I guess I just like it to be my choice. But seriously IS there a reason why we have to disclose our birth date?

Crystal, can you answer this , is it an absolute necessity to put in our birthdays.

I don't mind myself.....as I am never going to age a day over 25

Perhaps another way of looking at the thumbs up is as a Thank You to the author for posting the information in that post.

Debbie, if you go to your User Control Panel, then click on profile, you will see that under your birthdate, you have the option of making your birthdate public or not. The next option is to have your birthday displayed on the birthday congratulations list. Just click no for both those options, and your birthdate should remain private.

Well, I just checked my own birthday, and it is on the calendar, even though I checked no to making it public. We'll have to check with Crystal on that. It may be, also, that because I am a moderator, nothing is hidden, so I see my birthday, and the other mods would be able to, but not the general membership.
