New Articles - Finch Information Center

There is new information at the Finch Information Center--Crystal has been busy!

For those who have Owls, there is an excellent article on Owl genetics, with pictures for a visual on what you can expect when breeding the fawn mutation, as well as black-rumped versus white-rumped Owls.

For species articles, there are new articles on Blue-faced Parrot finches, Gold-breasted Waxbills, Bronze-winged Mannikins, Purple Grenadiers, Parson's finch, and Swee waxbills.

I learned some new things about the Purple Grenadier that I will be trying this upcoming breeding season. One thing I noted is that the article says Purple Grenadiers should never be housed with Cordon Bleus. I can attest to that, because I tried putting Sue, my male PG, in with a group of male BCCBs, and he immediately started chasing them. Yet he gets along fine with 3 Lavenders and a Black-cheeked waxbill, which is his buddy.

So go check out the Finch Information Center, there is lots of new reading there! Thanks, Crystal, for keeping this the best place on the web for finch information.

When I first got into finches, when someone referred to the rump, I thought they meant the vent area, where they poop, like with people. The most common form of Owl finch is the white-rumped variety, and that is what most of us have. The rump is the upper tail coverts, as in looking down on the bird.

Thanks for the heads up on the new info Sally. I will have to check out the Owl section for sure.
