Question about Likes

Post by afinch » Sun Apr 06, 2014 10:28 am

Hello,

This is a phpbb, right? Would it be ok to ask what Like MOD has been installed? I'm looking for one just like this, that is simple and straight to the point. It would be awesome if you could refer me.

Thanks in advance!
AF

I don't know anything about the mechanics of this site, I'm fairly illiterate when it comes to computers. Crystal is the owner of this site and does all the changes, upgrades. I will contact her and see if I can get this information for you, and then I'll send it to you in a PM.

I do know that it is a phpbb, but I have no idea what that even means.

I've sent an email to Crystal. She is extremely busy, so it may be a while before we hear back, but then I will let you know.

The mod is called "Thanks for posts" (https://www.phpbb.com/customise/db/mod/ ... for_posts/); I played with it a little to adjust it to say "like"

Sally
I'm with you there Sally, not a clue as to what all the pbph blah blah blah means... =))
I'm from the generation (prehistory) when we had to look for stuff in books, without any myserious peepeepoopoo letters. LOL.
I so admire the 'slightly' (eheh...) younger folk who know all this stuff and are oh so comfortable with it. Sigh~~~

I just got my first smart phone, my old cell phone was a relic. The guy at the store told me that if I had any problems, just ask the grandkids to show me how to use it! I learned to type on a manual typewriter, took dictation from my boss at work using Gregg shorthand, went to the library for research, actually looked up things in books. Different times.

But when we ate dinner as a family, we discussed our day, we talked to each other. I am saddened when I see families in restaurants and everyone is on their phone, they don't even look at each other.

I know exactly what you mean. I still love books and always will. Have a housefull of them and still go to the library on a regular basis.
Had a friendly argument with my nieces husband a while back about libraries. His opinion was, that we don't need libraries anymore 'you can get everything on the internet, so who needs books?' I looked at him and shook my head. I said to him that the internet doesn't smell like a new book, nor an old one for that matter of fact. And you can never get that special feeling with the internet, as you do with a book when you turn to that very first page, pick up your cup of tea, put your feet up and enter into another world.
As to families and cell phones at the table , in the car, and everywhere else. Oh so rude. That's why the art of conversation is being lost. People just don't know how to talk to each other anymore and we are probably the last generation to still know how to hold a conversation without electronics.
Also, do you recall the excitement of getting a letter in the post? As a young person, I used to have pen-pals all over the world and it was so exciting, and so much fun. Now don't get me wrong, I love you guys on this forum and being able to chat with someone from Australia at the push of a button, but it's not the same. I remember so clearly waiting for the post man, and getting a fat envelope with colourful stamps from somewhere far away and exciting.

We have hained a lot with technology, but we have also lost so much. Sigh~~
Do you know that they don't even teach cursive writing in our schools here anymore? And you don't have to lnow how to spell anymore (spell check does it for you).

Yes, I was shocked to hear that cursive is no longer being taught. Kids today print instead. For me, printing was what I did when I first learned to write, a little kid. Cursive meant that I was a 'big kid'.

I worked as a volunteer at a plant sale. We had calculators at each sale table, but I was adding the receipts without using the calculator. The older customers were able to relate to this, but more than a few of the younger customers were amazed that I could do that! Simple math--it's indeed sad.

I was taught cursive at grade 2?3? It was adult writing and I used to imitate my parents cursive in squiggly lines... Thinking it was so cool! Its also so beautiful... If they do t learn it does that mean they can't read it either? Ill teach my daughter I think... I wonder if shed get in trouble if she wrote in cursive over print though? Its so much faster too!
I always wanted to write short hand like reporters/journalists do! So ccooool!!

Regarding 'cursive' I just found out about this recently. My friends grandsone going into grade one, and his dad shared this bit of information. I was  .
I always remember how proud I was to learn grown up writing. It was sort of like a rite of passage.
Now however it's all about computers. A kid doesnt have to know anything other than how to punch keys, the computer will do everything else.

I wonder what will ever happen if someone pulls the plug one day and the internet goes CRASH???? Our future generations will just sit there and not have a clue how to survive. :-B :((
