Google Map
Yesterday, I came across MOD for phpBB3 'Phoogle (Google) Map MOD' Version 0.4.0 that allow users to put their locations on the map. It took me under an hour to install and try it.
I was hoping that something like this could be added to the Finch Forum. It would really be helpful in finding other members that leave nearby. And with different markers people would be able to advertise their birds for sale or trade.
Thanks.

Have o wait and see what the mods think of it, I myself would certainly love to see the real distance.

Re: Google Map
We did this on our dog rescue, it is good for members but since the rescue was on Facebook I started to get odd notices from strange people to add them as friends. Perhaps this is something that can be made only for the members to see and not the public. Or as a member you can have the option of adding your location on the map or not.

Re: Google Map
Would there be a page on the forum with this map that each of us would have to individually have to enter our information on? I don't fully understand it but it does sound very convenient. I like it, I hope the mods/admin do as well.

Re: Google Map
I've seen this on another forum and think it's very cool! Only those who wish to be "seen" would put their own locations on the map. It can be surprising how close others are to us. I like it!
I don't know how to get it onto this forum - perhaps Sally or Hilary can help.

Re: Google Map
Liz, I can check with the lady that did it for our site if you like. She even has it so that when you click on the little red ballon you can have a tiny picture of you or your cavalier (in our case birds) pop up.
I will write her and ask.

Re: Google Map
We used slide.com for ours. It has the ballons, slide show of members pics. It is pretty neat. Anyone on the forum can choose to add themselves as a guest or not.

Re: Google Map
Yes Domenic, it creates extra option in your Profile, so you can put a marker on the map and select if you want to show it or not. There are several markers to choose from.
And if you click on somebody’s marker it tell you how far it is.

I'll shoot Crystal a note to see if she'd mind if we added this. My reef (saltwater aquarium) club also has it on our forum.

Re: Google Map
I LOVE this map, it is so much fun to see where everyone is--not that we don't all have a general idea, but this brings it home. Mickp is 9,290 miles away--makes Donna at 700+ seem like she is in my backyard! So why is it that only 24 people have logged in their location? Come on, folks, join the fun!!

Re: Google Map
I agree Sally. It's fun seeing everyones face out there
Seems Domenic and Franny are a little lonesome way out west.... MickP..well he needs a whole continent to himself I think Seems the east coast is where the finchers migrate.
