HOW DO YOU KNOW IF YOUR BABY GOULDIAN IS EATING??

Post by oversweet10 » Wed May 07, 2008 2:14 pm

I have a few white zebras and 1 Gouldian that is being fostered by the parents. The zebras are 4 days old and the Gouldian is only 1 day old. He is the same size as they are now. I just need to know if he is actually eating!? If you have had a baby Gouldians can you tell me what they are supposed to look like/act like when they are eating/full. If they aren't feeding him I need to know so I can either put him under a pair of societies or feed him myself. :( All HELP would be much appreciated! Thanks!!!

Thank you for responding!!! I don't know if mine is that evident. He is only 1 day old... I'm pretty concerned maybe for no reason.. The foster parents (white zebras) have not attacked him or anything I just want to make sure they are feeding him. This is what he looks like:

Difficult to tell from pics, but a chick straight out the egg has food for a day or so...You will have to check again next day.

Well that just put me at ease a little. 8-[ I did something crazy... I decided in my head that they were not feeding the Gouldian so I took him and put him with a pair of Societies (they have laid eggs but they have either not fully developed or were not fertile.) So anyways they are quite inexperienced. When they realized there was a baby in their nest they almost jumped back and were completely curious. The male eventually went in and laid next to the baby (and I could even see he was bringing some food up) but I never saw him actually feed him so I decided to put him back with the zebras and see what happens. Ahhh, this is stressful. :)

Let them get on with it ..you can cause more trouble by interfering.I understand your concern but leave 'em be. Keep your inspections to a minimum.

I am going to do what you say...I am going to leave them alone already. :( I did check them half an hour ago and I can tell they feed him because he had a little yellow in his neck... The others definitely look fuller than he does but whatever I am going to leave it alone. :?
