box hedges are fine in an aviary. very slow growing though. the birds love nesting in them once they are big enough. maybe try some shrubs or bushes in your aviary, just keep them pruned so they dont take over

I bought at the last bird fair a beautiful bonsai tree. My gouldians love it. I call it the gouldian tree. They will all go to it and perch and it is beautiful.

Here are a couple of pictures of my tree. Look closely and you will see the gouldians hiding in there.

What kind of tree was it before it was pruned?

Sorry, I don't know. I just thought it was pretty and bought it.
But my birds sure do love it and the man at the bird mart told me it was safe for birds that he had one so I trusted that. And it is their favorite spot for some reason although I have tons of other trees and plants out there.

I'm now inclined to buy a finch-friendly bonsai plant. I wonder how hardy bonsais are inside though. Do you think it would need a special UV bulb near it or something? (I have a full spectrum bulb near my finches' cage, would that work?)

Mine is in a sunroom so it gets plenty of light. All he told me was that I should give it some water every day and not let it dry out .
When I go back in two weeks I will ask him what the plant was.
