Well....It Finally Happened :-(

I had to rehome my two male Zebra finches.

All this time I was reading about how others people's Zebra finches had agression issues with their other birds and mine always got along well with my Owls & Gouldians. Well....now my two guys decided to get agressive the last few weeks.

I was hoping they would get over it when I put them in a separate cage for a few days and then put them back but I guess not! Must be hormones? Anyway since I don't have another cage large enough to keep them in...I just decided to rehome them. I found this nice lady who was so happy to get them and she is looking for two female Zebras for them....lucky fellows!

So now I am down to just 2 Owls and 2 Gouldians. I sure notice the difference in noise level with the Zebra brothers gone now. And even the other finches don't move around much now. At least the Zebs kept everybody exercised! I will probably end up with fat finches soon...lol!

I had to rehome a lot of my zebras but i think if i rehome the rest of them, i will keep my chestnut flank white with the black cheeks.

I know you hated to do that especially after having them for so long. But at least they got a new home. Things will be much calmer in the cage now. They just have problems.

I know that sucks..I'm sorta in the same situation with one of my males. He is my favorite one but space/pairing etc is forcing me to hunt a new home for him.

I know it is hard to do, but sometimes you can't have peace in your flights with Zebras. I admire the people who do keep and breed them, especially when they have lots of them, as it must take a tremendous amount of attention and shuffling birds around to keep peace in their setups.

Lots of work, i was constantly checking on them in the flight cage to make sure they didnt fight or have any babies fall out the nest. I rehomed a lot of mine and eventually when i can finally let go of them I will just keep a male and female black cheek pair to breed.

how about a new species. This sounds like the perfect opportunity for you to do some bird retail therapy. I suggest a pair of Cordons or stars. Just a thought...

I thought about that too williep....but I an wanting to breed my Owls so I will need that extra room for the baby Owls (if I can get them to raise babies successfully!) They have been parents once already so hopefully they will do a good job again!

If I ever get another cage...then I will get more finches but right now we are sitting tight with the baaad US economy.

Dreaming about getting more finches is totally free though...lol!
