Prices of cages on craigslist

Post by Sally » Thu Jul 24, 2008 1:20 am

People in my area, Ft. Worth, Texas, are getting crazy selling cages on craigslist. There is a listing for a cage like the HQ double flight, and they are asking $450!! And they got it used. Don't they know you can get the cage new online for less than $300, including shipping? And tonight, someone listed a cage like the HQ single flight for $275!! Again, new online for about $127, free shipping. No bargains out there right now.

Does seem a little odd considering a lot of folks aren't spending their money due to the economy here, the take over of IndyMac, banks going out of business, etc. Most people are resourceful to find a great money-saving deal. Maybe people in Texas aren't feeling it as much as other parts of the country.

Between the economy and my husband being on disability since April a year ago, it is tough. I find it cheaper and wiser for me to build my cages. And i can build as big as these HQ or bigger. That is like these hopper feeders, I wish I could buy a few of those. They are handy. so instead I got some dollar store feeders and wired them to a plastic throw away sandwich container to catch hulls, and it work as good as the hoppers. It's fun coming up with different ideas on a budget. Oh I also used the card board nest box idea also. The advantage of the forum. Thxs

In my area (MN) I noticed some people trying to get like-new prices for their used cages also. But there are a lot who have been reducing their prices after awhile because they haven't sold it yet.

It's a waiting game to see if they will come down or not. Some have been trying to sell their cage for a loooooong time. You would think they would get the hint to lower the price after a while....some people just don't get it I guess!
