I went from using paper towels to white butcher paper, I got a roll of it from Sam's. made a template and cut sheets to fit the inside of the tray. they loved to pull the paper towels through the grates and tried to stuff the whole thing in the nest box.

cindy I had then attempt the same. It's kind of funny and cute to see them attempting to drag a piece of paper towel 20 times the size of them into the nest. Shadows favorite thing in the world is nesting material. He will do nearly anything for it. I remember when three of the four babies were still in the nest right before fledging he got a hold of a piece and put it right on top of the babies heads. It was silly and cute at the same time. I had tried using shredded paper bedding once and woke up to half of it in the nest. He will use anything he can get as nesting material including pieces of millet. It's adorable to watch them build a nest and make little squeaky noises and get all excited and proud and cuddly but I definitely cannot have any more babies! When I took Kuri's egg out earlier she looked sad and started searching around for it, poor girl.
