So sorry for your losses, it is difficult when you loose young ones.
Perhaps as others said the parents are related, to young or lack of food.
That must have thrilled you to have Berta eating out of your hand!!!

I usually recommend that if you buy finches from one of the chain stores like PetSmart that you then look for a mate in another chain such as Petco, PetSupermarket or at a bird show or private breeder.
