Re: I just couldn't help myself.....
Mandie, I really don't have much taming experience other than trying to work with some of the babies a little bit before they leave here. But I tell people to just keep getting the bird each time it jumps off, over and over. Eventually the bird will get the idea that they will not be allowed to get away with jumping. (This can only work with clipped wings, of course.)
They just get used to sitting on your finger, and then after a while you can work on teaching them other things.
If you work with them near their cage, they will just keep trying to jump back to it. (It's familiar, safe.) So I tell people to take them to a strange room. That way, the room is scary, but you are considered the familiar and safe element.
I think it's nice that your husband takes an interest. Cute sense of humor with the names!

Re: I just couldn't help myself.....
Need some advise here! What did do I have? I know them as "parakeets"...yellow/green one and a blue one...That's it...I've been reading and trying to learn more about budgies but they sure are different from my finches...they don't eat much, don't drink much, don't make any mess! Compared to my itzy bitzy finches...??? But I love their songs and morning wake up calls!

Re: I just couldn't help myself.....
Buster seems to stay "puffed up" more than Cloteal. Could something be wrong? He eats, drinks, sings sometimes, but not like the rock star. She's a strong flier, (Buster struggles more) and she's never "puffed up". So what's up? Could something be wrong with Buster? What do I need to look for? Please send comments. It's a learning curve for me right now. I want to do the right thing for them.

Re: I just couldn't help myself.....
Finnie Thanks
I will surely be putting them back on my finger before putting them back in the cage. Once they jump off I catch them and put them back....no no no now I see that is a mistake !!!
They are much better today already, very much like to be next to each other which I guess is understandable. I will be putting a lot of time into them to keep and maybe teach them more.
Jen...very pretty budgies you have there, I love their colours wow.

Congrats on the budgies Mands and on the keets Jen. Very cute.
If they like the running water you might let the faucet trickle into your cupped hands while they sit on your thumbs. My Jenday conure loved to take baths this way.

So does Lil Bit, my GCC. He sits on my hand and flaps his wings and take a drink, then he tries to get under the faucet more directly. So cute!

They are still getting used to my hands, but as soon as they are more settled I will try the water, they really do start singing when they hear it.....so cute
