Finch help!!!
Hi everyone, I didn't post here for a long time. I really need help! My zebra finch
was getting some night fright or maybe because something cause her to fly around
the cage last nite. It was dark do I immediate turn the light on and check that she was at
the cage floor , with half head low-down position. Where I can't even see where her beak
is, then the area on her breastbone (where get beak tuck in) start bleeding, oh my god, I am
worried sick so I hold her careful, where she let me pickup easily without fly to escape like a
normal finch does. Anyway I used flour put on the bleeding area, but don't I couldn't see where
exactly the bleeding area so I only can dab the flour to wherever I see the blood. This is so strange,
and this female finch had no problem for 2yeard since I raised her from egg to hatching , fledgling,
and into adult. Please let me know if you guys know they kind of disease or even abnormal behavior
it is? Maybe a stroke? I don't know but really want to know, sigh I hate myself can't stop her bleeding
even I put flour, but still more blood come out from the breastbone or neck area. It was a big amount
even when I held her on my hand blood in my palm too like the size of a thumb and bleeding more after. Please let me know if you ever know what the problems are? There's no vet in my home area that
late at night, but just want to know what's going on with her, so I can try avoid this happen again in the
future to my other finches:(. Thanks

I'm sorry you and your bird are going through this. Hopefully someone here will help you soon. Do you have corn starch? Can you try that instead of flour, maybe this one will work better?
Can you dab the blood with a napkin and try to locate the wound? Applying it directly to the area of the broken skin will be most effective. I hope she didn't break anything...

Most importantly, try to remain calm. If there is something you can do, then people here will hopefully guide you to do it. If not, panicking won't change the outcome. Try to be calm so you don't lose your focus and don't cause her and yourself additional distress. What's done is done. Now focus on doing what you can to fix it.

Re: Finch help!!!
Thanks for your reply, I did put flour and cornstarch last nite but still see more fresh blood coming out. Especially the feather around her neck and chest area all red, so scary. I care about her so much and didn't sleep whole nite because worrying about her, I put her back to nest to rest last nite without disturb her, while have more flour and cornstarch on her belly area in case more bleeding occur. I will check her later and see what to do...

Re: Finch help!!!
Just want to know what is the possibility that caused her bleeding suddenly? Esp during nighttime after everyone asleep included my other zebbies, but she flew down on floor and with head/beak down which feels like she was biting herself when I saw her last nite, cause the bleeding. But why and what cause her biting herself like that? Her beak was sharp enough if she poke it into her breastbone area?

Re: Finch help!!!
David, make sure you don't have a spider or small creature that is nocturnal in the cage that could disturb them, if outside be careful to not leave the cage under trees as spiders will get in your cage. Inspect that cage very carefully every two days for tenants not paying rent and for holes that a mouse can climb in for food.........
Google home remedies that stop bleeding.
Under my aviary feet outside I place a water catchment area, so nothing can climb into my aviary from the ground, the water is around the castors like a castle with water around it.

Re: Finch help!!!
Hi Chirp, thanks for your kind words. My female zebbie died this morning after I posted my last message
I feel so sorry for her because I am not able to save her since the blood was such a big amount...by the way I kept all my cages indoor in living room areas.
At least she stopped bleeding more after those I've seen from last nite, which no more fresh blood coming out,but from those large amount f blood loss last nite was too much for a little bird
I was praying whole night but now she ended up dying too sigh. I saw her died peacefully with the position as how a bird sit in the nest, not up side down, the last eyes contact with her was from last nite and she looks at me as like and wants to say "thank you for being a good owner to try save her..." I really love this birdie because she was so strong and active daily and come near me when I feed her, so she can eat food out of my hand when I handed her veggies, millets, scraped cuttlebone etc. I feel so sad and I ended up loose her

Also my birdie never have any sickness and but this time I was so shocking why she died like this and doesn't look like any illness at all. Just like she was biting herself with her bill on chest area. Do you think it's a stroke or heart attack?
hope she will RIP. Poor birdie .
