SAW A LOVELY GOULDIAN AT THE PET SHOP...

Post by lovezebs » Tue Dec 23, 2014 2:24 am

Hello All.

I went to my Pet Shop yesterda to purchase some seeds to feed the expanding family.

As always, I had to go look at the birds. They had a really beautiful male Gouldian there, and I so wished I could have brought him home with me. He was really gorgeous and I wish I would have had the presence Iif mund to snap a picture of him, but regretably I didn't.

He appeared to be in perfect feather condition and colours, which made me think he'd been very well cared for.

He had a lovely bright orange head, a shiny white breast, and a lovely yellow back. The colours were simply vibrant, almost glistening. Just a lovely, lovely bird, not so much as a feather out of place.

I really wanted him, but a hundred and forty bucks, right before Christmas...sigh~~~ I couldn't justify it , not even to myself....

Aw, he sounds lovely.

That's a high price, even for an orange head, which are less common in some areas. I bet it's a Xmas price; wait until after and re-check. I bet he'll be less!

Gouldians go for about 125-150 in the Boston area if you can find them at a pet shop.
To each his own.

MiaCarter & Jen &@Solomon

Hi Folks....
This is the normal price for Gouldians in my Pet Shop. In other shops even more expensive.

This particular bird was very appealing to me for whatever the reason. I already have my Orange head (Jaxom) who is very handsome indeed :-). This little fella however is very attractive in a different way. Just the Orange, white, and yellow combination of colours is very striking.

If he's still there after Christmas... I might consider him as a justifiable addition to my little group of Gouldis. Maybe....:-)

Hi Elana,

Can I ask who had it? Was it Pisces or Big Al's?

Hi everyone, first of all: Merry Christmas to all of you!
I guess I am way below most people with the prices I've charged for my gouldians. I've been breeding for white breast/green back/ mostly red or orange head (but also the occasional black head). I usually sold my young birds to friends around here for $45. But at least I always knew where my 'babies' would be living. I still have one red headed and one orange headed male (can't live without any gouldians), but sold my last three females in November. I would like to concentrate on breeding something 'new' (to me): black-crowned waxbills and strawberries. We'll see how that goes.

Just realizing how large the range is in prices for Gouldians, at least in the US. In our area, I've seen them range from $45 for normals, with orange heads starting at $55. Blues/silvers are around $100.

I've not bought birds for several years (fortunately I still have unrelated stock...), so I haven't actually looked at quality or condition.

Petshops rarely have them and I would probably not purchase from a petshop since I do like to see the conditions under which the birds were raised. Just a personal preference; not a deal breaker.

Were I to purchase from Florida or California, I would most likely fly there to pick them up and to take a peek at their environments.
