Just curious, what type of nest does Mrs. Hudson have?
Hope you have success hatching them.

Nice, let us know how you do. Didn't realize how many people don't use closed nest boxes but instead open ones.

I was afraid to use the little covered bamboo baskets anymore. Babs had a horrible time with one of those when she had to get the babies out in the emergency

Next time though I want to get nest boxes that attach to the outside so I don't have to go in the cage to check on things and disturb them.

Kelly

Oh Kelly, I'm so sorry. Sending hugs your way.

Did the eggs look like there was the begining of babies in them?

I know how upsetting this is, but this is part of breeding sometimes (not the nice part obviously).

If you persevere , and allow them to try again, eventually you will be rewarded with cutie babies. Some pairs just take longer than others, but with some time, and some practice, they usually get it right.

So sorry :(
I'm sure they will lay again quickly. Take this time to set up the nest box like you'd like for easier access.
best of luck

So sorry, but as others have said, this is often a learning curve for our birds. This time, you can set them up in a nest of your choosing that will make it easier to check on them.

They just looked like eggs..I didn't see anything in them.

We are finally done with making hay #:-S and the last goat kids and alpacas were sold so now I'll have time to do things exactly the way I want with the finches <3 ..Well mostly I still have to do homeschooling :D So new nest boxes, more plants and just let nature take it's course..If they have babies they do if if they don't that's ok too because I love just watching them. :)

That's ok don't worry you learned the hard way! It happened to me with my first clutch wich is now tow beautiful 14 day old babies! When they get fussy and angey and anxious that means the egg laying is on the way( this is what happened to me). They don't really hate each other but rather a domestic conflict over the interior design for example :P my male was the more fussy one though, he was more anxious than her  but after observing them well you learn to read their behavior.... So you shouldn't have removed the nest in the first place.. It's ok if she doesn't like the nesting material and lays on a bare nest, mine built a wicked nest and when egg laying was near they started messing with is even during incubation and during chick rearing, no now the babies live on little nesting material surrounded by their poop! Don't worry now there's always a second clutch and next time try to leave them do their business as long as their is no blood drawn, this is what i learned! You can read my experience with my pair
