Lots of rain
Before this new lot of rain that started today, we have only had couple of days where it rained well. Now I am just hoping that my birds in the open aviary are ok. My stars have babies in the nest, and there are 4 gouldians youngsters that are still being fed by the parents. There are also a multitude of Bengales chicks. I would like to say, "Rain, rain go away, come back another day", but our dams are only 48% full and we need the rain.

Hello Marius,
Do you have an enclosed section of your aviary, or do your finches tolerate cold temps? How cold does it get, 10?
Thanks,
Luis

Re: Lots of rain
jimenezl I have 2 aviaries outside. The one I have left basically open, and I have a mixture of various finches it it, including about 10 gouldians. The other aviary, I have enclosed quite a bit with see-thru plastic sheets, because I bought quite a few gouldians that are split for blue. The lowest it get here is about 3 celsius, but the average low temp is about 7. During the rainy days in winter, the average daytime temp is about 14 Celsius and then during the sunny days about 20 celsius. During summer the nighttime temp is about 18 Celsius and daytime about 26 Celsius.

Re: Lots of rain
Marius What a delightful weather. I need to move to where I can keep my birds outdoors. As far as you mentioning the hybrid goulds needing more protection, why is that?
cheers,
Luis

Re: Lots of rain
jimenezl Basically the blue split gouldians need more protection because the guy that I bought it from kept it indoors. I got it in the middle of winter and I could not acclimatize to the outdoors. That is why I am pampering it a bit. Normally I would not buy birds in the middle of winter. Blue gouldians are not known for their hardiness.
