To whom it may concern

Post by Babs _Owner » Tue Sep 06, 2016 9:52 pm

My daddy was brash, direct and never minced words. He was also...my best advocate and friend. Years later I find myself in my vegetable garden
(which I hated tending as a child) hearing his voice in my head......till this , more fish buried here, put the chickenpoop THERE!!

For years I've grown vegetables, and finches by his observant example, his father's, my mother's mother and it fruits every year without fail. My daddy taught me how to feed and raise for release my first robin.

So much to be gained by our elders, or even those of us riding down the road to healthy birds. I love the person that admits failures as much as successes.

I love the people I've learned from along the way, and I welcome the new, in any manner they present themselves. Sometimes a politically correct answer will not remedy my problem when a direct answer
(even if I dont like the delivery,) WILL answer my question.

After all,,,,we are in this for the FINCHES....

Babs

Fantastic description,

Very nice little write up indeed Babs :-BD

We never stop learning as regards to bird keeping and I've been taught by many old school fanciers and still go by this today,

Sadly many of these fanciers who were my friends have now left there innovations, thoughts and ideas behind for the likes of us to work with,

As the very true and wise saying goes....." If it ain't broke don't fix it "

Yer making me feel old now Babs and I'm only middle aged.....lols

I also try to answer politically bird related questions at times and sometimes there can be some very awkward questions,
A fair few times I'll get caught in the crossfire between discussions but will still try to reply which is not always easy.

As bird keepers we should be doing what we all luv most a that is enjoying our birds and communicating with friends,

Above all else some of us more experienced bird keepers should be helping the newbies as much as poss and especially juvenile bird keepers as these are our future generation of fanciers \:D/

As I'm in my 40s but my father was probably old enough to be your father. My parents had me late in life.

I could reflect on so many things sadly lost. A simple handshake being a person's word of honor is one of them.

I hear the sadness in the echos of the stories older military veterans share with me daily in my work. As if they know when they are gone, much of everything they ever fought for or believed in, will be gone too.

While the TV and gadgets re write history, erasing the minds and cultural legacies of our youth.....traditions are more important now than ever.

I enjoy hearing about the "old ways". There are many facets about how our elders did things that we desperately need back in the world. Not just in breeding birds but in many things.....

Oh how so very true Babs , I quite agree,

I luv listening to stories going back in time, I like a bit of history and geography aswell,

Even better if there old school bird stories as these are irreplaceable,

Most of my bird keeping ways are probably going back to old school as I was taught by some of the best in the field and still go by this , am also prepared to adapt to moden day info aswell if need be

Babs

Every new generation that comes along, thinks that they are the first to experience life and all that it brings with it.... :) and that they know best.

We, who are 'slightly' older can just sit back and smile quietly.

I always say, that if I was as smart as I thought I was when I was eighteen, I'd be the wisest woman in the world, lol.

There is a wealth of wisdom, knowledge and experience in the hearts and minds of our seniors. A sign of maturity, is when the young are willing to sit down and listen.

Agree 100 %.

Who was it that said: "Youth is wasted on the young..." ?

Things I now realise I should have done when I was young...

Get my degree in computer science earlier than I did.
Buy a house back in the 80s when it was much cheaper
Have lots of animals and fish and birds
Get married earlier and had kids
Make sure my mum and dad had a nice place close by
Make sure they had lots of animals, fish and birds.

Life was a lot simpler back in the 70s and 80s when I was growing up. I should have made the most of it then.
Mark

Our Finches and our poodle supply me with an never ending amount of therapy for my stress related depression. Sitting there, throwing the ball for the dog while watching the finches is the best thing ever.
