Pictures of my Flock

Post by Sheather » Wed May 17, 2017 2:14 am

Sam and Ollie the budgies, Maggie and Milo the canaries, Apollo and Poppy the socies, and Peter and Sarabi the orange-cheeks.

I've had Ollie the white budgie for 3 months now and he's finally losing his clipped wing feathers and growing new ones. He was bought from a bin o' budgies in February, tamed down very quickly but then went through a phase of being flighty and aloof again in March and April. He can fly to a limited extent now, and his personality has become much more outgoing as a result. He's recently returned to being friendly and easy to handle.

A group shot with six of the current eight. The society finches were off doing their own thing, and I didn't get any good shots of them, because when I tried Sam photobombed.

This is the perfect number of birds for my current situation and I have decided this is where I shall stay as long as I'm living where I am. Everyone has a buddy they're bonded to, and I have exactly enough space to house them (3 cages), but not one bird more. I tried ten, but the two zebra finches I bought a few weeks back were too much and decided they'd do better with my neighbor, who already had five finches and welcomed two more (they are doing wonderfully in their own flight with her down the street).

Goodmorning Dylan,

The kids are looking great.
I bet they are all enjoying their free flight times, especially the tiny Orange Cheeks. How on earth do you convince them to go back into their respective cages?

The parakeets are hand-tame, the canaries make a beeline if I put any tasty veggies in sight, and the finches usually go home last, when the other two cages are shut and the get hungry.

Beautiful flock. They look happy, healthy. I like the way they all have a buddy and their own cage. Sounds like you've found a nice balance for everyone: Happy Birds-Happy Home

Looks like a nice family. I am holding at 7. ( One little blind girl lives alone in a small cage. Would love to give her a buddy, but it makes her crazy.) Have you tried to get your budgies to talk? There is a great talker online named Disco. His peeps are funny and teach him silly things. I would LOVE to have a talker, but I guess you never know when you get one if they will do it.
