Thanks. I hope they will be. They paired up quickly and slept in the nest together really well, so maybe more babies on the way one day.EyesofFreedom wrote: Congrats![]()
They seem pretty fine to be close to one another as well... probably will be a good breeding pair...

Re: New Zebras
Heya.
I have had my Zebras a week. They are still in a cage on the kitchen table amongst all the activity, they are busy and having a great time.
This morning i woke up and there was an EGG !!!! The cage is just a simple bird cage with no privacy or anywhere to hide. And for this reason i put a nest in there for them to sleep in thinking there was no way they would breed out in the open like they are.
I know Zebs are prolific breeders but I didn't think they would like this. It was only a temporary situation.
I have to wonder whether they will go through with the whole job?
Should I now cover the cage with some silk plant or something? or just leave them be?

My gouldians have been right in the traffic flow of the kitchen and back door for years without any problem. Your zebra's may have been used to that kind of situation. I would watch and see what happens, the silk plants are up to you, don't think it's a necessity.
good luck

Re: New Zebras
Zebras are very bold, not shy at all and will breed no matter where the cage is. I use to use a lot of silks in my zebra cages but stopped since once the nest was removed they would try to build nests in the silks creating a bit of a mess. A simple nest for them to raise their young in is fine.

Re: New Zebras
Ginene Thank you.
I don't know much about Zebra's so I don't know if they are "Good looking" ones or not. Is there anything that makes mine common or special? I can take criticism here, I would just like to know if they are different.
I picked him for his black chest, he was the only one in there and then her for her tears and her light colour, which i know see is a zebra thing.
2 eggs today, but then they built a nest straight over them, so i took out the material and uncovered the eggs, hopefully that wont upset them too much. It is a pretty bare looking nest.

Re: New Zebras
It would be interesting to see the young... We do not have the Black Body here in the states. You have gorgeous mutations in Australia that we don't have here and visa versa.
CFW is sex-linked so some of the males will be split to CFW.
Black Bodied is dominant so that mean you will get more black bodies, the boys will be split to cfw
Good luck and keep us posted on your pair's eggs/young!

Re: New Zebras
Thanks heap. When I seen the zebras with the white chest I thought maybe he was not a great colour. I am so happy he is pretty awesome. Well I think he is. Hope you guys do too.
I love her tears and her pretty light colour.
Maybe I should go back and are if they have another one. He was $18.50 which here in oz is pretty expensive for a zebra, usually they are about $5 she was $12. But I wanted them so much I didn't care about the price.

Re: New Zebras
Thank Chirpy. They have 2 eggs already. The pressure is coming from them !!! My head is spinning there are babies everywhere and i am busy trying to find good homes for them. They are pretty adorable though. All my money is going to cages, i am trying to figure out the best combination of birds/cages.
Now I have over 23 birds but I love every one of them and I have so much fun caring for them all. Nothing is too hard and the joy out ways the work.
I remember we got ours at the same time and i think joined the forum around the same time. Come on girl, catch up

You show very strong self control. That is something I do NOT have.
My collection has grown and each time i swear NOT ANOTHER ONE....but they give me so much fun. Plus, you still have a little one, mine are all grown up so they are pretty much all i have to do as I don't work due to health reasons.
My hubby has to listen to me all day going on about them "Did you know and What about this"!!! but he has joined in now and has even bought his own.
We have an outdoor aviary that used to have Tiels in it but we got them a new one so we are going to use the older one for Finches outside. I won't be leaving the side of my bunch inside though, they are mine and staying right where they are. Although it will be nice to watch them outside as well.
I am just lucky i have a spare bedroom that is decked out for them and I get to sit in my comfy leather chair with all the necessities i need.
Oh i just checked the Chocs, they have 2 babies but a couple of eggs, they only hatched a couple of days ago so maybe another one or two?? 2 is enough though.
So far. (as well as my list on my signature)
Ginger Ninjas: 3 babies
Chocolate frogs: 2 or more
African Fire Fighters: not sure yet
Zebra crossings: 2 so far.
Thank gosh i have stopped naming them, I was getting so confused.

Re: New Zebras
Heya peeps.
So, my Zebs have laid 4 eggs. She is not even interested in sitting on them. Should i take the eggs out straight away? and the nest? or go ahead with my plan.
My plan is too take the eggs out, put some privacy around the nest and give them the nesting material to build their own, and from there see how they go. I am pretty sure this is their first time as the lady said they were young.
What to do? What to do?

If she just laid the eggs she has up to 7 day to sit on them. I would leave them and see if she has more to lay and if she sits. Often they do not start to sit until the 3rd or 4th egg.
