Oh what beautiful birds! And how lucky they have a whole world to live in.. and a personal caregiver to boot! I want to be re-encarnated as a bird and live in your aviary,, yup that is what I want to do.
thanks for sharing

That's an awesome aviary. I've always loved and dreamed of courtyards in houses, and yours is a courtyard with finches, which makes it most cool. Great job rescuing the tortoise, too!

how to catch a bird

Post by nickkio » Tue Jul 08, 2008 7:50 pm

your aviary is beautiful indeed. How do you catch your birds to medicate or band them?. I have a great deal of difficulty catching birds in my aviary. We all end up stressed and panting Claudia

Thank you very much for your comments.

I use a small cage that I rig with a spring loaded door and a string. I then place food inside the cage and then pull the door close when the bird I want to catch is inside.

I lure the different species I want to catch with different foods/treats. My stars and parrot finches love the wet food mix I provide and all the shaftails and Cordons can't resist a chunk of termites so it's quite easy.
