Common sense is not as common as we think.
I agree with you that some people should not be allowed to have pets of any kind, but then some people should not be allowed to have children, or marry, or.... You see what I mean?
Even if this fool and his mother were reported, they would just get a friendly suggeston, or at worst a slap on the wrist. As long as they could prove that they were feeding these birds and were not outright torturing them or killing them, nothing would be done about it.
So now the question is: Is stupidity a crime?

If it was, there would be a lot less people out here & the world would be a better place.

I couldn't read the whole thread. I had to stop. It's been a rough day for me so I didn't have it in me. How can you keep that many birds in that small of a cage? I have two small hospital cages for sick birds and I hate keeping them in those by themselves.

Some people have no value of life. Just look at the postings on that forum & you can tell what you're dealing with.

I read the whole thing and couldn't deal with it. I joined the forum just to post in the thread. Disgusting.

Does anyone know if that post/thread can be reported on the site? Maybe the website has the information to report the "owner" of the birds to animal cruelty authorities? I sure hope someone can intervene.

I didn't read the first post at all. By all your reactions I'm happy I didn't. I don't think I could handle it today! The lengths we go to save a little bird's life...if someone is not giving minimal care...or worse, as this sounds...it's a travesty!

Welcome to the forum. I hope that you will stay with us and read of better things, my friend.
As to the rest of you finch lovers. I do believe, that this thread is a few years old, is it not? Not sure where Dylan came across it, so there is not much that can be done about it (although these people are probably still continuing the same horror with other birds)
As mentioned above, even if they were reported, not much would be done about it. A warning, a slap on the wrist, nothing more. Sadly, birds, mice, hamsters and such are mostly considered 'throw away, expendable' pets. If these people can prove that they feed and water them, and offer some sort of shelter from the elements, then that's it, that's all that is required really. They are not outright killing them, they are not outright torturing them so nothing would be done about it.
As mentioned before, stupidity is not considerd a crime.
Not for the tender hearted, but look up puppy mills, kitty mills, dog fighting, animal neglect cases.... These horrors go on all the time, and that's just the tip of the iceberg.
We live in a cruel world my friends, where there are many who feel that it's alright to neglect , torture and kill anything that is weaker than they are, and helpless, and can't fight back. We just had a case here recently, where an owner duck taped both his cat and his husky dog's mouths shut and sat back and enjoyed watching them starve to death.
What more can I say?

Re: Saddest "Finch Ownership" I have Ever Seen
That guy is just an idiot, plain and simple!!!
Some people just have a terrible attitude towards animals and it says a lot about them as a person.
This is definitely the type of person I could never get along with as he is certain to be an arrogant fool.
He starts off not knowing ANYTHING about the animals he is keeping but then to make things worse he couldn't be bothered to even do the smallest amount of research even when things really start going downhill by pg 2.
To me it feels like he justifies everything he does by humanizing the birds ......... but you certainly wouldn't let a human live like that!
A real mommy's boy too, no wonder his girlfriend dumped him (she must have been pretty awful herself to have ever liked a repulsive guy like that).
The mom should be acting like the adult, not like the kid in the way she just throws in as much as she can get her hands on into those cages.
Unfortunately this guy seems to think it's clever and cool to be ignorant and enjoys the attention from people as foolish as him (not us, his friends egging him on).
Unfortunately this is an example of the sad state of the human race.
