The fawn Shaft Tails are magnificent. What a beautiful mutation. I find the Shaft Tails to be very elegant looking birds to begin with, and this colour is lovely.

Didn't you just pick up a pair of Shaft Tails? How are your's doing. I really like them. Also like the noises they make. Yes, the Fawn are already my favorite.

Mine seem to be a pair. One is singing, the other not. One has a wider bib. Hope they are a pair.

Yes, she broke her leg just below the tibio-tarsal articulation, and I splinted it using wire, self-stick first aid wrap, and a straw. She ultimately lost the leg due to lack of blood supply below the break, but she has now healed and gets around just fine despite my poor veterinary skills.

Oooh....those fawn shaft tails are super pretty! I don't see them often; usually the normals.

I love shaft tails! They tend to have very bold personalities. They can be rather pushy and even a bit snippity in my experience, but I've heard others say they do really well in a group so I think it just depends on the individuals and the dynamics of the specific group.
As one of the others mentioned, they do make really lovely tweets and peeps!

The owls are among my favorites! I bet you're going to love them!
They're some of the sweetest (and most attractive, IMO) finches out there!

I've found owls are a species that form *really* strong bonds, both with another owl or another species. (I've had a male owl bond with a female zebra and a male star). KarenB's Hoot and Annie also exemplify this super strong bond.
So just beware of that when rearranging to ensure you don't break up a bonded pair. Or if one passes away, you may need to provide a little extra heat and electrolytes to help with the stress.

Good memory, Lori. Yes, I did pick up a bonded pair a while ago. They are two years old and very close to one another. They snuggle together and preen one another, and even eat together.
Both of them are doing very well. They are in a flight with my Zebras and CT, my one elderly Cut Throat male. I don't find them to be at all pushy. If anything, I think they are quite sweet. Maybe they get a little edgy when they're breeding, which they are not at present.
Their calls are really cute, I like them too.

Your male fire looks like he has lovely deep colour.
I've found the Firefinches like a lot of privacy when they breed. If you want them not to be flighty in a cage, provide some fake plant hidey holes for them to dart into. They will nest in a basket / small nest box /make their own out of dry grasses and absolutely LOVE white feathers to line their nests with. My males usually court the hens by singing softly and waving around a little feather. Very cute. Their song is very delicate and not as load as others, so they usually get drowned out.
I find them rather affectionate to each other and you will usually find them sitting together or preening each other.

Owls are either easy to breed or not! LOL everyone has different experiences with them. I found they got on with it by themselves once a true pair was found. They love to roost in a nest at night and are very social as others have said.
