lovezebs He says that he is bi-sexual, but his lover says that he is gay. It was an arrange marriage, this way he could do what his family wanted and get to be with boys. The same night his wife was killed he was looking on gay sites looking to hookup.

Re: Vindictive neigbours
The bit that I said about the pigeon loft I got verbally from the inspector. It is obviously wrong. I got the applicable law from the local Health Authorities. It says that no structure that accommodates animals shall be sited:
1) within 1.5 metres of any boundary wall which abuts to another residential erf.
2) within 6 metres of any boundary which abuts any road or public open spaces.
3)within 4.5 metres of any dwelling, servants quarters, inhabited outbuilding and shop or building where food is processed.
4) A structure in which poultry are kept may not be higher than 3.5 metres (Are finches poultry?)
5 - 8 Bla bla bla .....
9) Not withstanding the abovementioned provisions, the council may wave any or all of the requirements of this chapter, providing no objections of adjoining and affected neighbours is received.
So in the end it depends on the neigbours. If they receive a complaint, then they have to act. I think that I must get chickens too. I didn't know that I was allowed to keep them.

Finches are not considered poultry or pigeons, so at least you can challenge that part of the "rule." I am blessed with one set of great neighbors, who have helped my family through many of our difficulties. Two others are somewhat difficult and one of those is complainer to the city too. They cost me $1800 last summer because my pool filter broke, but I couldn't afford to fix it yet. I kept adding chlorine to keep away mosquitos, but they complained anyways. The city charged me to de-mosquito my pool, even though it didn't have any insects in or around the pool. I finally got it fixed, but not soon enough for the neighbors behind my house. They also complained about my half built aviary, saying it was garbage that was left in my yard. Well, it was my back yard and next to my house/fence. They'd need binoculars to see any of it since most of is is acrylic and mesh around a tree. Neighbors can be a pain. We try to send something at the holidays to the neighbors on all sides of our house and we always are polite and friendly, even if they are not so much.
Ugh....
I would befriend the neighbors, even if they're crazy. Make them something nice for the holidays or bring some form of a peace offering. Maybe, do some charity at the prison, and let them know you visited and met their daughter. (that's a big one I admit, but could be helpful to others too).
It's not easy. Good Luck.

Re: Vindictive neigbours
finchmix22 Deborah, I believe that horse had bolted long ago. When they moved in about 10 years ago, they had 2 German Shepherd dogs, that almost succeeded in taking off part of my scalp on numerous times. There is a brick wall between us, which is well over 2 meters high on my side, but because they live higher up against the hill, the wall is only about 1.5 meters on their side. I would work in the garden and when I got up, I have the long teeth snapping viciously in my face or above my head. I went to them and spoke to them in a decent way, the wife got verbal and the sons wanted to hit me. That was the last time I has a conversation with them. The dogs were the reason I built my aviary all along the wall.

That is so sad. We just have to do the best we can with neighbors. I'd really watch the finches if they are that difficult. If they don't like them, they might harm them or try to release them etc. I hope you can work out something without disturbing breeding season.

Re: Vindictive neigbours
Luckily, the aviary is modular. 2.5 mm Galvanized square tubing made up in to sections of 3 metre sections X 1.8 wide and 1.8 high. All the sides bolt together. I am going to remove one of the 3 meter sections. Put that together in the new location and put all the non-breeding birds in there. As soon as the breeding birds are finished I will move that aviary as well. I am go to end up with two 3 X 1.8 X 1.8 metre aviaries with a 1 metre wide mesh covered passage with a gate on the side between them to prevent bird from flying away. I am going to loose the section with the glass sides. I will think of a plan to use that come winter, since I am now the proud owner of gouldians as well.

Shucks.... I was about to say, WOW!!! and then you tell me it's all a joke??? What a disappointment. Not nice to build up a girl's hopes like that.
All I want is a pack of Boerboels..... and maybe one little Uzi.

They sound like lovely folks.
Family people, with children....
Dog lovers...
What's the problem Marius..... it must be you....
Seriously though, I would watch your doggies and your birds very carefully..... and your scalp as well. Can you build the wall higher? Maybe some barbed wire on top, to stop crazy digs, and discourage crazy people.

That sounds awful. I have a bad neighbor too, but he sounds like an angel compared to yours. And we have a street between us, so that helps--no common walls or fences.

Re: Vindictive neigbours
My dad always said that good neighbours are a true blessing from God. I thought that it was a strange thing to say. He died when I was 13 and only much later in life I realized how true that was. lovezebs I did just did that. I put barbed wire on top off the wall and that really caused things to go from bad to worse between us. I gave them about a month to do something to keep the dogs from jumping onto the wall and trying to bite us. When nothing happened, I put barbed wire on my side of the wall. They took it down within a day and stole the wire as well. They accused me trying to cause serious hurt to their dogs. I felt that when the dogs were on the wall, trying to seriously hurt us, they had it coming. Don't get me wrong, I am a serious dog lover, and believe that you don't get bad dogs, only bad owners who trained their dogs badly. The neighbours threw a couple of tree trunks over the wall a few months ago. It landed on my aviary roof. I decided to be the least and not throw it back over.

More barbed wire, and lay a live wire across the bottom of it.
These are plainly nasty individuals. Honestly, maybe you should lay a complaint against them, for having dangerous dogs, who havr attacked you, or attempted to attack you on several occasions. Plus the fact that they are throwing stuff over your fence and damaging your property.
It becomes a vicious circle at some point. Very difficult to deal with.
Are you allowed to buy pepper spray ( we have bear spray here). If the dogs attempt to attack, a snout full of pepper spray surves as a wonderful deterrent. If that's not available, plain hair spray will do the trick (for dogs and owners too).

Re: Vindictive neigbours
Guys, neighbours can be good and bad, I firmly believe that your neighbour is not your friend, it is just "hello" and that's it! Don't get too friendly with the people next door or in a complex, don't confuse them as friends, most times it ends up bad. I had an issue with such a person, I bought a new car, he saw it and got jealous, he parked behind me so I could not get in front of my house, at an angle, when I complained he threatened me with a few friends, threatened my property and then sent mails to everybody telling them I have mental issues. I laid a charge and took him to court, the judge gave me a 5 year protection order against him for harassment etc, no don't confuse neighbours as your friends, most cases they are not.
The strange thing about neighbour issues is that 99% of the time complaints are always about dogs, letting dogs bark out of control, and if you complain you are the bad man.......
I am going to train my Zebra's to bark from now on.
