Elana - I wouldn't start the sleeping-on-the-porch thing until spring (whenever that is in your neck of the woods). But I sure am impressed by your dedication to your birds if you are willing to do that. And I thought I was being nice to my birdies when I put the plexi glass panels on the aviary before the rain started and the nights got 'cold' (46 F = 8 C) ...
BTW, I love what you have on your wish list. If my strawberries have babies next spring I'll keep a pair for you, will find you a pair of gold breasts, too (unfortunately I just sold my pair to a friend a week ago - if I had known...) and hand-deliver them in the summer. Sounds like a great excuse for a mini vacation, doesn't it?

Elana - I used to do this type of countdown before Christmas... You know you are in trouble, don't you? You can limit yourself by taking cash. Checks and credit cards --- you're sunk. It's like when I go to my favorite stores: I take a small basket instead of a shopping cart. I can't wait for you to report back to us early Sunday morning. Oh heck, you might as well include pictures of what you bought because all of us will be waiting.

An outdoor Aviary, is not practical with our weather here, (although some people do have them) or I would have had one by now . An indoor one, although I'd love the idea, comes up against the lack of space issue once again.

I guess for now I'll just have to do with flight cages, untill some other solution comes along. I really wish I could get another flight cage like my original one, but too expensive at the moment. Sigh~~~

Elana - only one more 'sleep' !!! Do you think you will get any sleep tonight? Or will your mind be going around in circles trying to figure out how to accommodate your new babies? Is there a way to find out who will be selling what before you go? I hope you don't have to wait outside until the doors open because I'm sure you will be first in line. Do you also participate in the Black Friday madness? Either way, dress warmly: hat, gloves, oversized coat,... many places to hide little birdies on the way out...

I'm afraid I won't be there to open the door. I live at the other end of town, it starts at 9am, and I have cats, dogs, fish, and of course the birds to feed and walk.... well I walk the dogs anyway.

I hope that there aren't dozens of birds there that will tempt me. I'm poor, and haven't finished my Christmas shopping yet.

I think it will be fun though.

Hi all.
Finally back home.
A bit of a disappointment really. It was more of our bird club get together than anything else. I mean very nice, but more people than birds. All sorts of food and conversation, but... very few birds....

None of the birdies I was looking for.

Did bring home a friend for my Hunter (Shaft Tail ), but the problem is, that it's a boy friend, not a girlfriend. As soon as I walked in the door, they started talking to each other. It was amazing how much they had to say to one another.

I think his name will be Archer, and he has a brown bib, while hunter has a black bib. I hope they will become good friends.

Oh Elana - I feel for you. When I went to the local bird mart/club get-together a few weeks ago, I had a similar experience: all I brought home was a wicker basket for 80 cents. At least you got one new bird. Archer sounds very pretty. I've rarely seen the ones with the brown bib around here. Now you can relax and focus on Christmas I saw the crowds clogging up Carlsbad's city streets today when I ventured out to visit my neighbor in the hospital...
And... tomorrow you can sleep in (at least as long as your dogs will let you). Have a wonderful Sunday!
