What are Hecks like in a mixed aviary (all passive birds)?
they are nice looking birds and I'm tempted to add some to the aviary if suitable

Hecks can be aggressive with other finches not a good mixed aviary bird except with such as Javas.

By the way my young 'un didn't make it...found dead today with no meat on the breastbone...Obviously couldn't feed himself.....Shame.

oh, I am so sorry he didn't make it. We always hope for the best but I think sometimes in our hearts we know they won't. That is the way it was with my little owl Tater. I kept thinking he was doing so well......

On the subject of shaftails, I have a pair in my mixed avairy, but I don't think I am going to be able to keep them there much longer. The hen is fine, but the cock is a little devil. He takes over everyone's nest and won't share food. He is always chasing the other birds around the aviary. I just really wouldn't go there UNLESS you have a very large open aviary. And I mean large.

thanks for the feedback, they'll have to go on the waiting list, till I have some smaller aviaries built for individual pairs
