Re: YIIIKES !!!
I don't know. My male RTPF has never been what I would consider overly aggressive with my female. This is his second mate. His first died mysteriously, supposedly from night fright. His second I got from one of the forum members here. They are currently feeding a clutch of two babies, and both are great parents. Maybe your male got an extra dose of testosterone or something.

They are in a community flight. I tried to pair him up with one poor unfortunate in a breeding cage. Well that lasted something like ten or fifteen minutes, before he had her down, plucking her like a Thanksgiving Turkey.
I should have named him Ivan the Terrible.

I don't know what he's got an extra dose of, but this guy is a bit of a 'wild thing'.
I have now stopped offering them mealworms, because I don't see any results of all this wild mating. Without the mealworms, they seem to have calmed down a bit.

PS. Congratulations on your new babies.

Re: YIIIKES !!!
I keep my parrot finches one pair to a double flight. Any more then they can hybridize or switch mates and don't get along sometimes. I had two male Forbes who fought and one had his eye plucked out from the fight. Now, just one pair per enclosure. They do need room to fly vertically and, of course hoizontrally for exercise.

Re: YIIIKES !!!
As colt mentioned the parrot males can be over enthusiastic and offered the best solutions.
Space and lots of it is the only solution really for an very plucky male.
If you find he harasses the hens too much, and space is a limitation, I'd suggest getting a more placid male. The aggressive ones make great sires as they out compete any other males in a colony. However the ladies do need rest to breed well.
If he is being overly amorous with three ladies, if space was sufficient I'd actually introduce a competitor. Another male will give him a run for his money and distract him from loving a little.
AGAIN though they need space for this. If there are only two males competing and not enough space you stand the chance of one male chasing the other to death.
I have them in a colony set-up (3 / 4 pairs per aviary with extra hens) where aggressive males chase each other around and lay claim and eventually get a single or two hens to submit to them. Then they guard their ladies and keep other males from harassing them. Peace eventually settles. However to do this you need space.

lovezebs - We've all got one....wild thing, that is!
My wild thing happens to be a zebra boy who's attracted to boys (Squeepers.)
Much to my chagrin, no interest in the girls at all (he's got great genetics and would make such a lovely daddy!)
But goodness, does he love the boys.....with LOTS of enthusiasm. LOL
Is her tail coming back yet? Or is she still like a little Christmas Kiwi?

Re: YIIIKES !!!

Thanks for the information.
Space is limited. They are in a large community flight. One male, three females (I think). Our overly enthusiastic fella is the only happy whistler, and mates with all three gals (when he can catch them). He doesn't appear to care much who he nails.
When I tried to pair him up in a breeding cage with one of the girls, it was a disaster (as you can imagine) so back into the flight they went.
Right now, things seem to have calmed down a bit, as they are beginning a moult, and I have stopped the live food for a little while.
Seeing as I have had no results from him with any of the girls, I am begining to wonder, if he's getting too old (age unknown). I got this boy second hand, along with what I know to be a young female (a yearling this Spring). So he has two one year old females, and one older female (age unknown).
Sigh.....
Just a thought, if I were to seperate him from his harem (while they molt) and let everyone get back in shape, then re-introduces him back into a flight with the two younger girls, offer nests, let them mate, then remove our Romeo, would a female lay, incubate, and raise chicks on her own? Or is that something that's unlikely (?)
Would appreciate any thoughts on this.
Oh, regarding getting an extra male, they are rather hard to come by around here.

Hi Mia...
Regarding the 'Squeep', have you tried pairing him up with a single young lady of your chosing, in a honeymoon suit, for a prolonged period of time, giving them a chance to bond, and get to.... uhem... get to know each other better? Without any boyish distractions.
~Elana~
PS. No tail yet

poor girl! Do they have a lot of greenery and places to hide from the amorous male? Males PF can be aggressive during breeding season, so give them help to take a break. LOL.

I know Deb.
He's a little devil, is what he is.
However as mentioned, our little devil, is moulting along with his harem, much to the relief of the aforementioned harem.
Now 'he's' losing his tail feathers, lol. What goes around, comes around, as the saying goes

Re: YIIIKES !!!
lovezebs --- Still no tail, eh? They seem to take their time regrowing tails, I've noticed.
At least she looks cute in the interim! So cute and cobby!
Re: Squeepers....
Yes, I've tried the locking-him-up-in-a-honeymoon-suite approach.
It didn't work well.
Totally ignored the female.
He found it very stressful and just clung to the sides of the cage closest to wherever his family members were.
When he wasn't doing that, he was pouting all puffed up due to the stress.
I didn't have the heart to leave him in there for more than a couple days; I was afraid he'd get sick from the stress.
I may try again though as I really want him to have kids! He's so handsome. (CFW male)
I'm thinking I'll change his "home cage" to one where it's just him and a girl at night.
And I'll let him do free fly during the day so he has a reprieve from any stress. (When I tried it before, I tried caging him 24-7 which he's not used to, so that may have been part of what was so stressful.)
And if that doesn't work, I guess I'll just have to accept that he doesn't swing that way!
I'm doubtful it will work as I've NEVER seen him pay any attention to a girl except his mum (but he's never gotten flirty with her; he treats her like a best friend, preening and cuddling her.)
Back to your PFs!.....
Have you ever bred the PFs?
I know they've got all sorts of fun color combos, so lots of cool genetic combos to create beautiful lovelies!!
I've never been to big on PFs myself, but I love the look of the green and reds (remind me of xmas!) and I love the speckled pied ones.

I've been trying to breed these silly guys, but so far no go in that department , sigh~~~
I am thinking that my boy is a little long in the beak (as in long in the tooth). He tries his damnest (and oh boy, does he ever try), but there are no eggs to show for it.
Seeing as he has three girls (2 of them only a year old), I have to assume, that the fault lies with him.
I find the PF's very attractive, when in top form. However, after this errr.... mating season, everyone looks quite scruffy.
As to the Squeep, nature is what it is. Maybe he wasn't meant to have children, who knows.......
