Unfortunately the babies were dead when we found them ... the wee tricksters has waited until we ducked out & we came home to their lifeless wee bodies. There was one left & we were hopeful it was going to be ok & then two days later they did the same to it

I'm really excited for you and your soon to arrive birdies! It is sooo exciting to get new birds and to "get to know" them. Can't wait to see photos. Did you order them on line? Or did you get them from a breeder? They have been on my wish list for some time, but have not been able to get a pair just yet. Enjoy them, but share the photos!!!!

Thanks so much Jenny ... where we're based in the South Island of New Zealand, its really hard to get different breeds of finch, so if you want pretty ones, you need to purchase from up North and get them sent down. Its so expensive, but so worth it. We've met some amazing breeders on our search for them. These lovely wee cherubs in this case are coming from a well respected shop near the top of NZ. I promise I'll post some photos when they get here :D

Like Elana mentioned, hand feeding is something you need to be prepared for with these species. My PF pair fed all their hatchlings to weaning, but when I had rccbs, they tossed after feeding for a week! So, if you read the breeding section about hand feeding, that comes in handy. I always keep some hand feeding formula, just in case. Also, investing in a pair of male Society's to train as fosters worked great for me. My pair of male chocolate pied society's, a male/male pair, have successfully fostered 4 gouldians, 2 Forbes and PF hatchlings. They sat on the eggs when the parents left the nest and ended up feeding them to weaning, which was great! Now, they want to sit on eggs and mother all the juvies!

Ohmygosh! They sound gorgeous, how sweet. I never would have picked the boys for nest & baby duties. That is so wonderful. I promise, I will definitely look up all the hand feeding info, so I'm prepared for just in case with these two. We aren't going to let the Cordon's try again, they are now in a busy aviary & perfectly happy with their feathered friends, whereas before it was just them, so chances dive even further for success.

Today our new feather-babies start their journey to us! We are sooooooooooo excited [-o<

Can't wait to see them Sunday night eeeeeeeeeeeee!!!!!!!! :D

Love your beautiful new parrot finches.....wow....been on my wish list a while!

Don't give up on the Cordon Blues. I have an outdoor aviary that I was successful in breeding them. Privacy is a very important factor even in that much space. They need lots of hiding places and live worms like mini mealworms to get them started. Best of luck!!!

Yay! We have our new featherbabies home & in their new indoor manor. They are SO gorgeous!!!!! Their wee peeps & chirps are the sweetest. It's quite late here now, so they have just been put to bed, although they are not very keen on the sleeping part by the sounds of it. They are definitely night owls! I'm hoping to get a photo tomorrow when I get home from work. Extremely happy feathermama right now :D

Woohoo!
I'm so happy for you, that they finally arrived, safe and sound :-).

And yes, (as I believe I mentioned before) they are 'night owls'. That's something that takes some time to get used to, lol. I'm sure the other birds hate PF's for that reason.... It's like : 'Shut up already, find a perch, and GO TO SLEEP! ' :-D

Enjoy your new babies, and don't forget the pictures.

Thanks so much everyone. We absolutely adore them. They are definitely not backward in coming forward that's for sure. They tucked straight into their fresh breakfast this morning without waiting & when my husband went to say hello a bit later, one of them came right up to him to introduce itself. Cute much?!!!!

For us, its great they are 'night owls' ... we are always up late, so its perfect that we get to spend some time with them. Especially at the moment being daylight savings here & all the other birds putting themselves to bed as soon as the sun goes down. I think we're going to have tons of fun. Hoping to get a photo this afternoon, but they don't sit still so could be a bit of hit & miss heehee :D
