Build up on top of beak

Just came across this Post, and it's interesting, because my Gouldian boy Tiny (Spring 2014), has a rather large humpy thing on his beak. I noticed it already last year, but it was not as prominent as it is this year.

So what are these things? And can it become a problem in the long run? By the way, no problems breeding, hatching, or raising chicks.

Keep in mind to much protein (high amounts) and fats can influence hormones.

So I just want to be clear, you are treating with an antibiotic, an anti-bacteria and an anti-fungal medication for something other then the beak. Because that's a whole lot of meds to throw at a normal beak condition.

I'm only treating with the Medpet Doxycycline plus ( doxycycline with added vitamins ) , the probiotics is for after treatment and the medistatin is a backup in case any develop a yeast infection as a result of the anti-biotics, my suspects are chlamydia or mycoplasmosis both of which are treatable with same anti biotic.

I'm thinking the beak issue may be a symptom but can't find anything online to confirm or dispute this, if i'm correct my thinking is the upper beaks on some of the pied parrot finches should over time change from black to creamy/yellow but this will take time to notice as beak rejuvenates/grows out the black deposit. Deposit is white on most the other species. Earliest indication will hopefully be a good gouldian breeding season after the're paired up around december.

Just an update, i've no idea if this course of treatment will be beneficial or not but here's my experience so far

Started treatment tues 13th Oct, guidelines are to replenish with fresh solution daily but i tried Brita jug filtered water first and solution had turned brown by next day which indicates a breakdown of the Doxycycline, following day i tried bottled still water with same result, now using purified water from animal pharmacy and solution is still yellow the following day as it should be, apparently minerals in water cause solution to breakdown turning it reddy/brown which can eventually turn toxic.

So far no apparent negative effects on flock, i have noticed the gouldians being more active with more bickering between birds in same sex cages. Droppings are still very watery.
