Poor thing! She looks just awful :( You've got a really nasty serial plucker. Maybe you could throw on some camo and hide out near the cage with binoculars :))

I think the only way, is to start tossing some into different cages, then maybe I can pick out who is acting overly aggressive. It's alway easier to hide in a flock.

Took a few other pictures of my little girl today.
She's active, flying, eating well, and In good spirits, but the side of her face still looks like someone tried to push her head Into a wood chipper.

I'm so glad she's feeling better :D Have you gotten any closer to finding the culprit?

She is doing better, but I think she's lost sight, or most of her sight in her right eye. I notice that she turns her whole head to look at things, not really using the right side much. I guess we won't know for sure, until her face heals.

Amazingly enough, she can still fly straight and manages to navigate quite well around the flight. I haven't seen her run into anything or collide with anyone.

I still don't know who the 'PLUCKER' is.

I did remove the Societies out of the flight this morning into a flight of their own, and discovered that Gimpy (one of my Socies), has an injury to his face as well. I slathered him with antibiotic cream as well. It looks like a bite, right next to his beak.

Anyway , this way it'll be easier to keep an eye on the Zebras, and maybe see who's being overly aggressive in that flight.

That poor baby! It sounds like she'll still be able to get around well even if she did lose some or all of her sight in that eye. I hope you find out soon who it is...little stinker!!!!

Me too!
It's one thing to do a bit of plucking when no one's looking, but these kind of injuries, that's taking it into a whole new level , which I really don't like. These sort of Injuries, can cause nasty infections, abscesses, and possibly death (if not caught on time).

So may I ask what the plan is when you discover whom it is. That is some nasty damage the culprit is causing.

Hi Trisha......

You've heared of chicken soup, right? :-)

Well, have you ever heared of Zebra soup..... ?

Seriously, when and if I figure out who it or they are, this bird, or birds, will have to go into a cage by themselves.

We had a plucker in our avairy. He would pluck the feathers off the back of the neck of another male (looked a lot like him so we thought it was his brother). He eventually grew out of it.

The problem is, is that the plucking just started fairly recently, and has escalated rapidly from a few feathers here and there, to large raw bald spots, to fairly severe injuries.

So there is something going on, and it's not a good something. I don't see whoever is doing this, outgrowing it. I'm worried that someone is going to end up dead.

Is there a bully bird in your flight? We found that the one that was doing all the plucking in the avairy was a bit of a bully and would be attacking and chasing any bird that went near it's favourite perching spot. It's brother would be the only one he would allow there, and he would be the one who ended up with his neck plucked.

It would be a shame if you had to put a bird down because of this. :(

Hopefully won't have to resort to anything as drastic as putting anyone down.

There is no one bird, that stands out as a bully (at least not while I'm watching). We get the occasional squabbling, that I've come to accept as 'normal' for Zebras, but no major screaming battles with blood and guts flying about (like I've seen with Lovebirds).

That's what's so odd about this situation, sigh...
