Babs Yes, I plead guilty, I hand-raised 2 baby pigeons when he was little. It looks like even wild pigeons has homing instincts and a good sense of time. Every afternoon by 4 o'clock, this pigeon is back.

Aw, let it stay. It's not really huring anyone, and what's a few extra seeds? You know the saying:

No good deed goes unrewarded....
Or is it:
No good deed goes unpunished....

Can't remember ;-)

lovezebs Yes, it is actually very cute. The only gripe that I have, is that I have to check to see where it is roosting at night and put some newspapers under it.

Bringing back those wonderful memories of time with his dad. You better record it before he goes off to college. <3

This whole thread made me chuckle. My tame dove that landed in my back yard now sits in a cage in my living room. She is my kids favourite as well, and my daughter would like to teach Dovey her letters. I love the idea of giving your dove a set up outdoors but my Dovey would be a birdy ice pop in a few weeks. Bless your bird loving heart for taking it under your wing.
A pair of Gouldians, Red Cheeked CB's, Orange Cheeked Waxbills, Javas, and Cutthroats. And, two canaries. And, 3 kids, a dog and a patient, patient husband.

monotwine Your words turned out to be prophetic. Today I left it outside a couple of times but he decided that it is a cruel dangerous world out there and came back inside within minutes. He is also wilder and don't like to be touched anymore. We call him Hansie and he is very Hans because he just wants to get inside. (Hans in Afrikaans means to be reared by humans or obstinate and he is both.)
