Babs
She's doing great, feathered up now. Very tame. I'm trying to integrate her into the flight for short periods but as soon as I go into my bird room
she comes straight to the flight door.
What age do they become independent, not needing exact?

Well our little chick has now joined the rest of the finches in the flight. She? is called Ester after my mother in law who have just passed into the spirit world. She is doing great, still likes to snuggle in my neck when she gets the chance. Thanks for the support and information I have received that has enabled me to experience the pleasure of raising Ester.
Kind regards
Derek

I'm sorry I missed this post. I worked all week. Hit the @ U button on the bottom of my posts in the thread and it alerts me in my message box to respond to ya.
Between work, my parrot and my finches time is short, so I tend to check my message box mostly during those days.
I am thrilled your little society is all grown up. Ester is a wonderful name and will let you know if she is an "Edward" in the next few weeks if the singing begins. LOL
Societies wean in about 10 days. When she no long accepts the feeding, then she is done.
You did a fantastic job!

Sorry Bab's haven't been on for a while.Ester doing great. Spends most of her time in the main aviary but still likes to snuggle in the cup of my hand and go to sleep.Babs wrote: Dek
Sorry I missed this. So much fun! Love the picture of the little one on your wife's head!
In the future , if the little one doesn't have all it's belly feathers yet, limit the time out of the brooder to very short times. Crops need to stay warm all the time until it's all feathered out.
I would assume by now thats the case. How's the baby? Still tame?

Sad to say Ester died this morning. She was struggling through the moult but seemed fine eating and drinking but it looks like she had a hard blockage in her crop.

Oh dear! I am sooo sorry.
You did so well. You are a great handfeeding daddy. I hope this wont be the last little finch we see hand tamed by you in the future.
