OH MY GOD!!!! This creature is beyond cute! I must have led a sheltered life I guess, ('cause I have never seen them or heard of them before).
The long eared one... Oh so adorable... and then I saw that little pygmy fellow having a bath or whatever... OMG!!!
If your men folk are going to cross the ocean and the desert and the mountains to bring you some, add my name to the list. Now I don't know if I want the long eared ones or the pygmy..... The long eared ones are endangered.... so we need to breed some more of them, Ruth.
Never mind the new car (who needs one) when you can go on an expedition, a quest if you will, to save the long eared Jerboa! Don't men fall for that sort of stuff???

Unless the jerboa drives a cool car, my men won't.
I first heard of jerboas from my degu-keeping friends, most of which are in Europe, where there are a very few jerboa keepers. Also, Jirds. But I like the jerboas better. They're the perfect combo of sweet, cute, and psycho.

Those are extremely cute and fun to watch. Thanks for the links Nerien! They remind me of a cross between a mouse and a gerbil/kangaroo!

Re: No Red Faced Parrot Finches, Please!
I've seen them described as "A living Pokemon", and also as a head on legs with a really long tail.
Of course, to properly keep jerboas, I'd need a whole room for them, turned into a desert-type habitat with sand & soil, rocks, xerophytic plants, lots of room for them to do their crazy running around in. Probably split off a part for the degus, can't share directly because of different diet needs. Then, the bird parts, oh yeah, the guinea pigs, hedgie could probably live in the bottom of an aviary part, being nocturnal she wouldn't get pooped on too much....cats and dogs live elsewhere with a very thick glass or plexi wall in between, so they can see all the fun but not ruin it....
oh yeah, gotta make a room or two for the family, too, don't I.

Re: No Red Faced Parrot Finches, Please!
My son just sent me this email, and we are conferring back and forth:
To Me:
Hey, this one is only $28k...
Comes in Grey with safety stripes. No turbo chargers and low horsepower.
(Don't know how to link to just the picture. But I think it's a Supra. Silver with grey stripes up the hood. Two door. Really low to the ground.)
to Alex
How do those stripes count as "safety stripes"?
Why does the tag hanging in the front window look like a radioactive symbol?
How the heck would I ever get in or out of this thing?
to me
Well the stripes help other people notice you so they don't hit you. That tag in the front is showing the low financing rate and all the other models in a circle. And it is a little low, but its so you can safely avoid low hanging wires And trees! Its got enough back seat room for an amuptee too, but back seats none the less! Comes in beautiful blue with all different colors of safety stripes!
Gotta love this kid, huh?

No Ruth, summer is coming, family can camp out. Give them a tent, or maybe a blanket or two.... They can watch the stars at night, have an open fire to cook over, a bucket to... well, you know. Tell them it will grow hair on their chests (which daughter might not appreciate, but hey, all for a good cause, will keep her warmer come winter...) Mother needs the space for jerboas, and I'd still consider a couple of meerkats ( they are awfully cute). Maybe some desert finches?
I wonder if they would go for it ....
For THE car???
PS. Bought some Girl Guide cookies this afternoon and thought of you. They WERE good, especially the choc cream ones... Yummmmm.

Re: No Red Faced Parrot Finches, Please!
Yay! Thank you for support the Girl Guides! Girl Scout/Guide cookies are the best!
My little troop of 5 girls had our third Cookie Booth yesterday. Seven hours out in the cold and wind. (okay, six and a half.)
We sold 441 boxes of cookies. 346 actual boxes, and 95 donated boxes for our soldiers overseas.
Our grand total for this year's sale is.......(drumroll please!)
1175 Boxes of Girl Scout Cookies!
889 actual boxes, and 286 donation boxes for our soldiers overseas.
My girls done good!
Today I am so wiped out I can barely move. Seven hours outside in the cold and wind, even tho the fresh air felt good, is NOT something someone with the flu should be doing. And I used so much purell on my hands to protect everyone & thing I touched, that they're pretty much raw today.
But we did good. Real good.

Re: No Red Faced Parrot Finches, Please!
Smart! Once you get a car, they suck every last penny you have out of your wallet.I'm 17 and the absolute last thing I'd want is a car.![]()
There's no public transportation, at all, in our area. Depending on the type of winter & weather we get, the roads are not fit for bicycling anywhere from 3-5 months out of the year, and they are narrow, winding, hilly, and often just downright dangerous to be riding or walking on. So, a car is kind of a necessity here.
But you don't need a new, fancy, cool, fast, etc. sports car. Just something with enough power to make it up the hills, big enough that all the oversized SUV's won't squash you, and reliable enough that you won't be stranded in the woods in the cold facing crazed deer and rabid raccoons.
