So glad your enjoying these little rascals. Are they fully coloured, or still drab baby green?

They are not shy birdlings, and are always on the go. Not quite sure when they sleep.

Looking forward to some pictures soon. Oh, and by the way, if you wait for them to sit still to snap a photo, it will never happen :-). You kinda have to wait with camera, and snap when the opportunity comes, lol. Or, you have to catch them, when they are busy stuffing their faces or having a bath.

Have fun.

Hi Elana

They are fully coloured & last night, I couldn't tell who was who as the lighting wasn't the best. I think the hen is meant to be a bit lighter?

Little pocket rockets! I guess the next thing is to think of names. I think we'll live with them for a bit, see their personalities & go from there. Our outdoor aviary birds have 'interesting' names.

We have:
- Ham n Cheese (red cheeked cordon bleu's)
- Cake aka Pavie aka The B52 Bomber (Pavarotti) (male golden singing canary)
- The Baron (bright red male fire finch)
- Little Brown & Fluffy Red (two very young male fire finches)
- Hindi/Dovie (Hinenberg) (male diamond dove - his form of flying is just like the doomed air balloon)

Nothing traditional there heehee :D

These guys are quite difficult to sex (colour doesn't come into it really). Only the male trills, but he does it with his mouth shut, so it's hard to know whose sounding off.

For the longest time, I'd thought that I had two pairs, only to discover later, that I actually have three girls and one boy, who's an oversexed pain in the neck that chases anything female.

Did the breeder not band your new babies as to which is which?

As to naming them........ I think I'd be tempted to go with something like Water & Melon (due to the colours) as in Watermelon, but that's something you'll have to decide on. Funny that you have a Canary named Pavarotti, I have a Canary boy, named Luciano.

Hi Elana

That's good to know. Yes, they are banded but I think they're both the same colour *lol*. Typical. I have their DNA papers too, but of course, that doesn't say who's who. We shall just have to watch & wait to see if we can tell the difference. Water & Melon is cool! I shall definitely keep that in mind.

Oh so cool about your canary! Ours gets called Cake as well because he LOVES the cake mixer - I make cupcakes to sell as a side to my day job, so its out often heehee.

Oh no!!!! That sucks about the crazy male. I'm so hoping mine is a gentleman & not too overly forward with his lady *lol*. Cheese the Cordon is also nicknamed The Cheese Witch ... we cannot put any other females of any breed in the aviary, she tries to kill them, but is good as gold with her harem of boys *lol* & thankfully apart from her mate Ham, none of the others show any interest in her, they're all too busy with their own Days of Our Lives drama heehee.

My Luciano, goes by Luchi, or Luciano the Bambino (his breeder Frank Is very Italian).

My two Cordon ladies, live in a mixed flight, with other species, and have never shown any aggression (maybe because there are no Cordon boys around).

Good luck with your PF boy. These guys are not known for their 'gentlmenly' personalities  .

Awwww, your birds are gorgeous. My hubby managed to get one nice photo tonight. Their wee personalities seem to be coming out more and more even after this shirt space of time. They are so sweet.

They are gorgeous!

Yes, they are definitely birds with personalities all of their own. You will have hours of fun and entertainment, just sitting and watching their crazy antics. Have you offered them a bath yet? Be prepaired to sit back and enjoy when you do :-).

Great photo, they certainly look no worse for wear after the long journey getting to you. I can imagine how many empty and blurred photos were taken before you got this great picture.

btw, they don't use open nests like what's in photo, box style which are half open at front are what mine prefer.

Thanks so much everyone. We are loving them to bits. They are such wee characters & talking more & more. I got to see one of them having a bath last night. Thankfully we got them an enclosed bath ... I've never seen such a small bird flick water quite so far *lol*, but well contained. And they are so friendly. I spent a bit of time talking quietly with them, & they were coming right up to me at the time, so different than the Cordons or Fires.

Not to worry Padraic, that wee nest is more for comfort than anything right now. We're not ready for them to start breeding right away. They will get something more substantial when the time is right. They have been very cute with it all the same. At some point yesterday, someone pulled out a good chuck of the nesting material I popped in there for comfort & this morning, I watched one of them go round the bottom of the cage, picking up the whole lot in its beak (looked hilarious) & put it all back *lol*. Whatever keeps them gainfully employed heehee :D

If they are starting to play with nesting materials..... ah-hem, they might be closer to planning on playing 'house' than you might think ;-).

Ok, ok....... I won't say it, tee-hee-hee.
I'm sure they are just practicing for the future, the farrrrr off future......... how is that? =)) =)) =))

My birds, have been known to have minds of their own when it comes to certain things.

Quite a while ago, I swore up and down that I would never breed [-X . Ugh-ugh, not me. That's why I had a male Canary, and four 'male' Zebras. Everybody told me that they were four boys..... well one of my four 'boys' started laying eggs :-D. What can I say, they knew better than everyone, that Micky was, and still is a girl, lol.

My Gouldians....... (supposed to be difficult to breed)..... well, mine wouldn't stop laying eggs, hatching them, and raising beautiful babies......

My Canaries..... the two girls, were only supposed to be company for my poor lonely boy Luciano...... two clutches and five babies later, I threw my hands up in the air, and pulled the nests.....

Shall I go on :-) ?

Beautiful Parrot finches! When I had them, they loved to bathe almost more than any other birds I had, and they would throw water everywhere!

Hahaha thanks Elana ... I think you're right. They have a certain idea in mind. I got home tonight to find all available nesting material (no word of a lie), had been woven, yes woven, up the sides & top of the cage by that little half nest. Looks like we're not being given a choice *lol*. I'd say it's pretty certain they have eggs on their minds

Oh yes Sally, they adore their bath. I was lucky enough to see them bathing twice tonight ... it's so cute!

Ohmygosh!!! New noise alert!!! Humming like crickets??? No leg pulling here, it sounds like there's crickets in there humming when they make the noise. Cute much???!!! It almost seems like an endearment to each other? Awwwww :D
